Agreed. I started to wonder what happened to my passion. But the thing is, I still really like electronics and that sorta thing, it really is just the monopolization and various anti-consumer practices that killed my love of computing. So now I'm considering an EE degree instead.
90% of the complaints I've heard about GIMP are just because its UI and workflow are different from whatever tool they're used to. I like GIMP just fine because I learned on it. I don't even like using Krita because I feel like it's 50% gimp with a skin lol
Yeah. Occasionally I find a good batch bit oranges have not been good recently. You could put it down to climate change or maybe just going for higher yields over everything else.
Nope, not at all. They are entirely indifferent to whether we live or die, as long as line goes up. Real estate prices falling from remote work means line goes down ever so slightly.
Agreed. The fundamental problem with cars has nothing to do with oil or climate change. It's that building a city around cars will ALWAYS fuck up your city in the long run, because cars and roads just take up too much physical space, and you just can't make them any more space efficient.
I can't emphasize enough that this has nothing to do with altruism. Your city will suck if you build it for cars because nobody will want to go anywhere due to it all being far apart and accessible by car. Some people make the argument that we need to move away because of the climate, and I agree, but I just don't think it's a very convincing argument.
People don't steal for no reason. It is usually desperation, a last resort. If we remove the pressure causing people to feel that stealing is their only option, people won't steal. I fundamentally believe in providing people their basic needs (food, clothing, shelter) because it makes these problems irrelevant. Ex-cons will tell you themselves that they felt they had absolutely no other option to keep themselves or their family alive. Give them the other option.
As for your fear bait, I'm more scared of dying via car because it's FAR more statistically likely than your invented scenario.
Piracy is easy and you get a higher quality of service than streaming services now. Definitely don't look at the megathread at !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com
I have learned very little about this because it's extremely obvious we are learning a politically spun version of the story to drum up a hysteria. Not interested in being involved in that.
It is also completely true and well-known that in Canada you do not have unlimited rights to take a life as soon as someone crosses an imaginary border, as you might in the States. I think that's fine, and the fantasy of "defending yourself" is an American invention of hyperindividualism. The very same that has been absolutely ripping apart their society at the seams. Not really interested in following in their footsteps there.
Because it's just not very good anymore. Their coffee is acceptable again, but their donuts are mediocre, and most of their food is just okay. I still like the breakfast sandwiches, though. And Timmies really tried to make their identity about how Canadian they are and that is not true at all anymore, so Canadians feel a little betrayed too. (This is not about their employees, but rather the fact that it they are now owned by an foreign private equity firm.)
The TFW thing is quite bad IMO, but specifically because they are exploiting those workers to an even greater degree by holding continued employment (and thus presence in Canada) over their heads.
I need more context to this. Who is that?
