  • I was under the impression that the general consensus is that his son was the killer, but OJ didn't want to give him up.

  • I just tested it on my work laptop and it's ridiculous how much faster search is now. Gonna propose to implement it company wide on workstations. I mean, I would do so in a heartbeat, but I still want our CIO to sign off on it.

For servers though, I'm creating the policy first thing in the morning. The slow search has been the bane of my existence for years (although admittedly I could've googled it many times and never did, so that's on me).

  • AR glasses would fix that

  • From the reports he got shot in the stomach. That's not where you would want to get shot in case of a false flag, and probably wouldn't put yourself directly in the line of fire like that either.

  • You know, I work full time from home ever since covid and it is brilliant because I had a long commute to an office I didn't really needed to be in because all my peers/colleagues are in other countries. But when I started out, I worked in a nice office which was a 10 minute bike ride from my home and it was brilliant. If I could do the same work within a 10 minute commute I do now, I would be in the office every day I think.

  • I use an HP microserver gen 8, which I bought second hand (300$) and upgraded with a better CPU (20$ from ebay) and extra ram (80$) and 4 2TB SSD's (100$ per). I installed Windows server on it because I just wanted it to work in a way I'm familiar with, but a colleague of mine installed Synology OS on it. You can use the cd drive bay for the OS disk (with some tweaking). Since you already have the disks, this would fit your budget.

  • But that's not fighting and some people have that sense of humor. Feel bad for them if they are unhappy, but if they are happy, why not be happy for them?

  • I fully support a ban on bottom trawling. It's a super destructive form of fishing and should never have been allowed in the first place.

  • So we should not pay more attention to parties with a ton of authoritarian tendencies compared to a party that has one or two viewpoints that may be construed as authoritarian?

I will posit my question in the nicest way I can think off. Are you fucking retarded?!?

  • I had a friend at university who was in quite a long relationship who kept a list of people she wanted to sleep with in case they broke up. So when they eventually had a break up, she postponed getting back together until she had cleared the list, which took her about two months. I was not on the list, in case you're wondering, nor did I want to.

  • It's an impressive piece of software, alright

  • The best thing to do when you fall off a horse, is climb straight back up on it. Rejecting almost limitless power because of an accident almost 40 years ago is foolish to me. Luckily research didn't completely stop and modern plants are a lot safer with a lot of medical applications for the waste.

  • One song that recently has been putting me into a very good mood every time I put it on is "Read my mind" by the Killers.

  • Tesla was overvalued when it hit 50$ pre stock split. Its continued rise over a period of years to one of the most valuable public companies is just mind boggling. But I think even now there is a lot of hesitance in shorting the stock as entire fortunes have been lost trying to predict a share price correction.

But we're about to find out whether Tesla truly transcends auto companies: https://bradmunchen.substack.com/p/could-tesla-go-bankrupt-the-odds

  • You need to upgrade your browser skills.

  • That was a fabulous comment though

  • I almost want to see him try, because invading Taiwan is more likely to ruin the communist party than the Taiwanese government.

  • I did some (limited) research into this some years ago and found blendle.com, although I never made the jump to try it. Iirc I thought at the time the price per article was too high. They are dutch so primarily focused on the dutch market and the proposition seems ok for dutch users (10€/month unlimited articles). For US users it's still pay as you go, but no idea on the cost.

But it's literally that idea: you buy credits and through their app/site you access the articles you want, paying for a specific article if it's a paid one.

I'm quite a voracious reader, so the pay as you go is not that interesting for me I think. I just use a variety of paid and unpaid sources to get my news.

  • To be honest, I kind of wanted to see this become a reality. I'm not surprised this won't happen, but the scifi lover in me is disappointed.
