  • idk I'm not trying to say I'm built different or anything but I've done the manual reading exercise so many times that I usually just need to read it once and it sticks in my head long enough that it doesn't hinder my productivity. This workflow is cozy to me

  • If it's a terminal application, the UI is essentially the same for every program. and it's a UI i'm comfortable with and enjoy using. GUI apps though, I honestly hate 90% of the time. Almost every graphical application is utter dogshit. So we agree... kinda?

  • UX only people who are willing to read the manual understand*

i learned pretty much everything about the vast majority of tools i use on a daily basis literally just by reading the manual. i know that attention span, and well, literacy are both high bars but if I can do it you can too.

  • not everyone wants to give up control of their life's work in exchange for funding. funding comes with stipulations.

  • blender is obviously an exception, they have the resources to do it. the vast majority of projects this post is about do not.

if people want to feel special for using difficult software, that's dumb, but that's not why the software is difficult.

"the exception proves the rule" and so on

  • I don't think this is right. It's more like:

This software is so obscenely powerful that UX is irrelevant. If you want that power, you are going to learn how to use it. We're too busy making the software powerful to waste time making it accessible to people who can't be bothered expending the effort.

This is especially relevant in open-source. It's free software bro. Pick two ONLY: Free, Easy, Powerful

  • You wouldn't have made it though the paleolithic era bro. You don't have the survival instincts ᵃⁿᵈ ᵃˡˢᵒ ᶦᵗ ˡᵃˢᵗᵉᵈ ˡᶦᵏᵉ ³ ᵐᶦˡˡᶦᵒⁿ ʸᵉᵃʳˢ ᵒʳ ˢᵒᵐᵉᵗʰᶦⁿᵍ ᵃⁿᵈ ⁿᵒᵇᵒᵈʸ ʰᵃˢ ᵉᵛᵉʳ ˡᶦᵛᵉᵈ ᶠᵒʳ ᵗʰᵃᵗ ˡᵒⁿᵍ ˢᵒ ᶠᵃʳ

  • Just wondering, since you're on my ass for no apparent reason in 3 different comments now... do you think I voted for Trump?

  • I expand on this here but the gist of it is that the model of dating is really stupid / fundamentally broken in my view

  • Why do you think I care if you care? You obviously care if you're gonna reply with a whiny indignant tone to multiple comments of mine that have nothing to do with you.

  • Wasn't talking to you...?

  • Live your life, idgaf. But I'm not asking or answering anything like that on a first date. To be honest though the entire model of dating is repulsive to me. I think relationships should be formed more organically instead of systematically testing a series of people. The whole thing just reeks of breeder. People are just trying to find a compatible person to slot into their predetermined planned out life with as little friction as possible.

Anyways my point here is that you should have a deep enough friendship to know these things already before you consider romance with someone. But this is irrelevant to you and I tbh, you date girls and I abstain from sex/romance. We should probably just be enjoying our distance from the hetero brainrot and not get wound up by the circus of bullshit.

  • Questioning people on specific issues is a lot less invasive than asking who they voted for imo. But I'm not taking political questions from strangers in public. I'm protecting myself because a lot of bad things can happen when the wrong people hear your views. I'm not trying to get blasted on social media by some woman I went on one date with. I'm not trying to get the shit kicked out of me outside the bar by some dudes who overheard me. I'm not trying to get followed home. I'm not trying to get disappeared by federal agents. You catch my drift? Your politics make you a target for somebody no matter what they are. At the very least I'm not trying to have any stupid ass argument I've heard 1000 times before by reddit-brain or twitter-brain dumbfucks

  • None of these things are first date material imo. Obviously you'd want to know in a partner, or even before they become your partner, but on a first date you are like one level above strangers and I don't trust like that

  • The video talks a lot about how Trump voters try to conceal who they voted for and how Harris voters are never reluctant to say they voted for her. Idk man. I'm kind of on board with the notion that who you voted for is a bit private. The voting booths are covered for a reason.

  • They made the damn cliff gay. Because of woke

  • They hallucinate too much to be used as a learning replacement. The hallucinations are completely fine when you're using it as a learning tool because when used correctly, you verify everything externally. I've used it to breach some difficult stuff I was really struggling with, like the Rust programming language. Used it to help me get started on it the right way, then used it to identify gaps in my knowledge. Been writing Rust at a pretty high level for 3 years since with no assistance from AI.

  • LLMs are genuinely a fantastic learning tool. You just have to use it as a learning tool, not a learning replacement...
