  • I think last I heard 47 children died this year due to rushing the kids back to their parents.

    I had a 6 month old drug exposed child that was medical fragile and DCYF rushed to reunite after the parents got out of rehab. Mom failed actually but Dad didn't. Day 29 back to parents and day 30 been on the run from the law. Kid is probably dead now due to the amount of care he needed.

  • This is about private agencies? Foster parent here, yeah the system is fucked up and there's tons of agencies with their own rules even in liberal Washington state. Each agency has its own agenda on who they'll license, what they support for the child's case (adoption, reunification, guardianship), age ranges, orientations, all sorts of things.

    I've gone through agencies and through the state directly. I wouldn't recommend an agency as it basically doubles the amount of meetings and training you're required to do.

    Honestly, the way Foster parents are treated as Air B&B's and with zero rights, I don't recommend anyone become a foster parent. Let the system burn so it might be rebuilt.
