  • Hanneke Faber became CEO of Logitech on December 1, 2023, after leaving her role as group president at Unilever. Since joining the Swiss peripheral manufacturer, Faber has attracted attention for her unconventional ideas about how personal technology should evolve – often with a focus on benefiting shareholders and companies first.

Faber is now best known for proposing the so-called "Forever Mouse" concept – a device with constantly evolving firmware features built on base hardware that customers would purchase only once. According to Faber, users would happily pay monthly or annual subscriptions to access these software-based upgrades. However, no concrete business plans have yet been announced to bring the idea to market.

Regarding pricing, the CEO compared the mouse to a Rolex watch and the software to Logitech's video conferencing business. A paid subscription is possible, but Faber offered no further details.

    What 😄

  • It's still helpful for messages. The social share/thumbnail isn't always available

    compared to

I'm not saying that this should take priority over all the other things the developers are doing, but I'd still like to see it implemented at some point

  • Using backticks can help

edit: How odd, the equal sign disappears

  • Nice! Looking forward to seeing how it develops

I also find it nice and snappy. Two small things I noticed:

    • It could benefit from some onboarding steps (ex. Setting the location, not having Tennessee saved as a favourite)
    • Some visuals aren't that helpful since they use a different scale on each day (ex. Daily temperature)
  • While Voyager has mod tools, I'm not sure if you can create a community in the app.

You might need to do the initial setup on the website: https://sh.itjust.works/create_community

Afterwards you should be able to take mod actions on the app

  • From what I understand, React is still very popular and it's the usual recommendation for those who are learning web dev frameworks.

React Native is not as popular for new projects though, and I usually see people recommending Flutter

  • Meta will contribute React, React Native, and JSX (JavaScript XML) to a new React Foundation, part of the Linux Foundation, and said that "it is important that no single company or organization is overrepresented."

The React Foundation will start with seven corporate members – Amazon, Callstack, Expo, Meta, Microsoft, Software Mansion, and Vercel – and its responsibilities will include maintaining React's infrastructure and trademarks, organizing React Conf, and sponsoring the React ecosystem. The first executive director will be Seth Webster, Meta's head of React.

React, created by Facebook in 2013, is the most popular JavaScript framework. (Facebook changed its name to Meta in 2021.) The most recent State of JavaScript survey reported usage by over 80 percent of respondents. React Native is a cross-platform UI framework based on React, and while it's not as dominant as web React, Microsoft is a particularly big user. Usage of React is also likely being boosted by increasing deployment of AI coding tools, which in our experience tend to default to React if not prompted to use a different framework.

  • To my knowledge, Lemmy doesn't support it yet but it's being worked on. Piefed does have it, and some apps may also support it already

I'm unsure if Lemmys implementation will be compatible with Piefed

  • All of this sounds convoluted, but makes sense in my head.

Makes sense to me. I do something similar mainly to avoid tiny scratches on my phone screen. I hadn't considered coordinating the coat pockets with the pant pocket system, but I might do that too now 😄

  • Neat

I wonder how Google (and the search engines that depend on Google) decide which person/entity to feature in the snippet. At what point would Lemmy the software replace Lemmy the person?

For example, "Swift" brings up the financial organization, while "Taylor" brings up Taylor Swift

  • I feel that I shouldn't make the final call for moderation in this community since I'm here more as support/spam removal, so I'd go with whatever the other mods decide.

In most other communities, when I'm posting something potentially clickbait-y, I prefer to edit the title and then make it clear that I edited it, either with square brackets or by mentioning the edit in the post body. I might also add why I'm sharing something if it's not clear (ex. that the analysis is good, or the channel is something the community would like). That seems to reduce the chance of complaints/reports/mod actions.

The main exception being the communities that are strict about requiring the original title (ex. News communities mostly)

  • I'm not familiar with this post, and unfortunately I don't think I received any reports for it since I'm from another instance. Best would be to hear from one of the other mods

I do see that there is an X/twitter link in the quoted body of the post, which might be the cause of that part of the message. As for the video, !videos@lemmy.world had a similar discussion recently on what to do about clickbait titles for videos. It's a hard one to deal with. As Lemmy grows, I can see it becoming a bigger problem and requiring stricter rules.

So to me it looks like the content is on topic, but it's a case of quality control

  • Wow this is nice!

  • This sounds more like a ship of Theseus style question

Is the person with amnesia still the same "person". I assume the question would also need to enforce the type/extent of the amnesia

  • I see Monero listed but didn't see the shitcoin. There's a lot on the page, can you point me to it?

In the meantime I'll edit the post to say that there are concerns with the linked page.

  • Appreciate it, thanks for sharing your work! :)

Another advantage of AkshrikaTutorials is that you'll be free to make tutorials about anything in the future, not just Microsoft products

  • Instead of !tutorials@lemmy.zip, it would be better if you made it something like !mstutorials . Or else you're going to get people posting other tutorials there

Alternatively, !akshrika_tutorials if this is specifically content from your page

edit: fixed the spelling, sorry about that

  • Hah

But also it might be good to add a [satire] tag text to the title
