  • Thank you for the individual links :)

  • Thanks!

  • I've had a smoother time with Bluetooth since switching to Linux than I did on Windows.

On Windows it would randomly disconnect, or I would need to manually forget and re-pair the device every few months. Now when I turn on the device, it reliably reconnects to either my phone or the Linux device, depending on which one it was connected to last.

Maybe it's distro / device dependent

  • Cellebrite builds the forensic tools law enforcement uses to get data from locked phones. As reported by 404 Media, the leak came from someone who managed to join a private Microsoft Teams call between Cellebrite staff and a prospective customer. During the meeting, the uninvited participant took screenshots of what appears to be an internal ‘Android OS Access Support Matrix’ and then shared them on the GrapheneOS discussion forum.

  • I can confirm, we banned that user and set it to remove their content from lemmy.ca

  • I didn't understand this one, was there additional backstory from previous comics about the Pen and Paper or Guzzler?

  • Maybe they had trouble hitting that atom, and decided to surround with many other U-235 atom before trying the split

  • I think it would be helpful if people (who are knowledgeable about the topic) can link to sources about why a post is wrong/misinformation. The mod is more likely to act on the report if they can quickly verify the content.

I say this as an admin that can see the reports go by, but it often isn't my place to take action since the report is about something that the community moderators would need to decide on.

I found this post because someone reported it as "lies". If I was a mod in this community, I would need to hunt through the comment chains to figure out what the problem is, and right now there is only one or two comments explaining the problem. For this specific post, the mod could also look up the quote, find matching photos, and verify that the other monument hasn't been torn down recently. However, it's not always that easy.

It would also be good for users to delete their own posts when something is wrong, or at the very least to edit the title with added context.

  • It's possible that their accounts were grandfathered in and already marked as "different people". During the next little while (the exact period is unknown, but let's say 6 months), any new accounts from that IP may get banned, but especially those that are deemed "suspicious".

We don't know the exact details because Reddit doesn't release the details. You might find someone here who can tell you about workarounds, but most likely you'll get the advice to move on and find something new. Most people are here because they no longer want to use Reddit, and I'd say the vast majority is here because they chose to leave and not because of bans

  • Your device has an ID, and there are various other metrics that they can use

    A demonstration:

    https://coveryourtracks.eff.org/

How does tracking technology follow your trail around the web, even if you’ve taken protective measures? Cover Your Tracks shows you how trackers see your browser. It provides you with an overview of your browser’s most unique and identifying characteristics.

Is the only way to evade the ban to dodge your online fingerprint? (new phone, new email, new ph number. Etc)

Not easily. If Reddit isn't getting enough data from you, and they can't figure out who you are, they will often just ban you again

  • lol I saw one for copilot which was along the lines of

"Which sweater should I wear today, red or blue"

"I can't answer that, what are you going for"

    "Hot"

"Pick red because it will make a bold statement"

    🙄

  • I'm happy participating as a community member, and stepping up as a mod later on if the team could use some extra help. I don't mind either way :)
