  • I really can't tell if this is serious or sarcasm because of the original comment, but I'll reply with the assumption that it's serious:

The reason I followed up is because (as the other comment said), it seemed like news about an american show, discussing american political issues. While those issues are directly affecting life here in Canada, this community often gets complaints about having too much american news and content. We can already see and follow along with the same news in other communities, and some users come to this space to get away from all that.

Sometimes I can dismiss a report outright if I can see the relevance, and other times I might leave a comment asking about it, such as this post. The author replied with the justification and the post was left up.

Yes, I'm Canadian, and you'll find that my post history reflects that

  • I'll unpin my comment and dismiss the report :)

That makes sense to me. Maybe we can encourage people to post them as text posts, with the link in the body and a title that makes it seem more like a discussion starting post?

At the same time, it's not too difficult to check on the posts on a case by case basis at our current size, and by the time that's no longer possible we would have the momentum to support other communities. So it's not a big deal

  • I think it's related to this

    https://www.androidauthority.com/google-not-killing-aosp-3566882/

    • Google has made it harder to build custom Android ROMs for Pixel phones by omitting their device trees and driver binaries from the latest AOSP release.
    • The company says this is because it’s shifting its AOSP reference target from Pixel hardware to a virtual device called “Cuttlefish” to be more neutral.
    • While Google insists AOSP isn’t going away, developers must now reverse-engineer changes, making the process for supporting Pixel devices more difficult.

GrapheneOS says it won't be a big deal:

    https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/21315-explanation-of-recent-changes-to-aosp-and-the-lack-of-major-impact-on-grapheneos

Fairphone also recently released Fairphone 6, and so people are talking about having to pick between privacy (GrapheneOS) and ethical manufacturing (Fairphone)

    https://www.howtogeek.com/fairphone-6-announcement/

  • I'll add it to the list, I'm not sure if I should also add a note about federation or if that will just be more confusing for new users

  • Thanks! I've added it to the draft

  • Thanks, I've added them all

If you want an example of a call for mods, here's one I posted from a while back: https://lemmy.ca/post/31769390

I love the photos you chose for each community. Looking forward to seeing them grow!

  • Did something from my comment give that impression? I haven't removed the post yet if that's the concern.

Someone reported this post as being unrelated to the topic of this community (Canada), and I'm following up on it by asking the poster to add context for why they posted it here. Most likely the post will stay up since it has a lot of discussion already.

  • Hi, we're discussing this one with the other admins and someone will get back to you soon. I've reapproved the comments in the meantime.

  • This is being reported as being unrelated, and I also think this is better for a different community. Could you add some context for how it is related to Canada? I haven't seen the episode myself. Else it might be better for places like !television@piefed.social or !casualconversation@piefed.social.

If you were looking to discuss with other Canadians specifically, maybe we could use casual discussion community for that purpose?

  • (copying my comment from another post)

I had to look this one up, I didn't realize how old the technology was

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flettner_rotor

A Flettner rotor is a smooth cylinder with disc end plates which is spun along its long axis and, as air passes at right angles across it, the Magnus effect causes an aerodynamic force to be generated in the direction perpendicular to both the long axis and the direction of airflow.[1] The rotor sail is named after the German aviation engineer and inventor Anton Flettner, who started developing the rotor sail in the 1920s.

  • From what I understand, it's still an excellent choice. It's well supported and decent for new users.

Can you look into if the online version of Excel works for your wife? That might simplify your install. Libre Office and OnlyOffice are decent alternatives, but they might not map 1:1 with the instructions she gets from school.

  • In 2017, Luckey left Oculus and founded military contractor Anduril Industries, a military technology company focused on autonomous drones and sensors for military applications

    Oh that's who this is.

  • The video lists out a few other collectable trends, some of which I forgot about (Labubus, Smiskis, Sunny Angels, Jelly Cats, Squishmallows, Stanley Cups, Beanie Babies)

I wonder how many of the expensive collectable sale stories are true. If I gave my friend $3000 and told them to buy my Fedivoo for that amount, that might hype up Fedivoos enough to get people buying them.

Time to launch my line of Fedivoos

  • Do you actually want to be in those communities?

Your account is new, the username is specifically against the mod and the topic of those communities, and you have 2 other removed posts in the communities you were banned. The posts were images of a crying witch drinking from shot glasses, which you titled "tastes good doesn't it"

  • I looked up some photos of it and I can't find any pattern. For any particular photo, I've seen people give each other a similar look across all age groups
