Yeah, but if you're a consistent player, the power creep over the past few years is absurd even compared to that. Really, the game became more fast paced and became "modern Yu-Gi-Oh!" in 2015, and has been power creeping ever since. But the last few years, it really feels like Konami is making absurd cards that aren't fun to play against on purpose.
Modern Yu-Gi-Oh! definitely does suck, but I will go to bat for the game as a whole as someone who does really enjoy it and has for decades. There are some banging formats in the history of the card game. The problem is the power creep, and the fact that Komami strongly leaned into it the past 5 years. Every card now does 25 things and those things all help the person going first play solitaire. It wasn't always like that though.
Give it time, a few weeks into it and every lib will be reciting the same lines about how it's necessary and how Venezuela is evil or whatever other shit the media tells them.
