  • Yes, please feel free to read “got distracted” in that manner, apologies for my somewhat vague and passive language. The US is a bloodthirsty country and found itself a more tempting set of victims for a few years, to put it a bit more dramatically.

  • Since the 1990s really. For example, when the US bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade in ‘99, and then a US spy plane was captured after it went down over China in April 2001. Then 9-11 happened a few months later and the US got distracted for a decade and a half or so.

  • Yes I did see your joke, thank you. Just out of curiosity: Why make the joke about AC3 and not one of the other made in Canada games about the US? Again, this is not meant as an insult or a malicious assumption or whatever, I’m just genuinely curious.

  • That’s the joke, isn’t it? None of the games on the list were made in the USA.

  • I’ve heard tale that the Gen Alpha teens find outwardly enjoying things to be cringe as their peers will shame them for it on TikTok. But I’m not sure how true that really is.

  • Additionally, the unspoken reality here is that we are all picturing some kind of imaginary essential pre-globalization cuisine and ignoring the fact that people in all of these countries are just as likely to eat a meal at a fucking McDonalds.

  • Doubtless at least one Swedish person has lacked culinary discipline and spread jam on toast, putting all of Scandinavia to shame.

  • There really isn’t much difference between the food in Britain, Germany, Sweden, etc. For example, they all basically do the same sausage and potatoes with poorly seasoned vegetables dish, just like every state in the US claims that they have a special version of pizza or hotdogs or whatever even though it’s really all just the same shit. It’s the narcissism of small differences.

Oh my god in Sweden they have lingonberry jam on toast but in the UK they have marmalade on toast and in Germany they’ll put Nutella on toast holy shit so different.

  • Yes, I did mention monitoring installs as one of the reasons, thank you. That was the only online check back when it was introduced 25 years ago, but there’s quite a bit more going on now.

  • The best alternative to YouTube is the DVD/bluray collection at your nearest big central public library. Just cut out the slop and click bait from your life entirely.

  • It won’t be as anywhere coherent as many here are suggesting. Expect extreme Hollywood stupidity, a grimdark Batman/Robin Hood who brutally kills the Sheriff's men but in an over-stylized speed-up and slow-down way like in 300 or The Matrix. Evil King John will be weirdly steampunk and actually working for Saladin to kill good King Richard and communicating through a clockwork magic portal thing. Robin is forced to murder the Merry Men to find and kill King John, but just when he arrives John pulls a giant chain that makes the portal grow. Then you’ll hear Hollywood middle eastern music as hordes of saracens led by King Richard pour out. Robin Hood will realize just as he kills King John that John was right and he has to close the portals and send Richard back, but England needs to believe in a good King so he does this while sacrificing himself to preserve the myth of the good King Richard the Lionheart.

  • Why make the computer do a thing that it doesn’t have to? The answer is control and profit. Control by monitoring installs and requiring Microsoft accounts, profit from advertisements for Microsoft services and data brokerage, and so on.

We should not happily embrace Microsoft’s desires for greater profits and control over the public.

  • Yes, that particular opinion and how you articulated it, it does. But not all opinions everywhere, no. That would be silly.

  • Saying that the PS5 has no games because those games don’t really count and aren’t fun anyways is only a hot take if you’re 8 years old and having an argument with your friends in the playground. The console wars are over, there’s no need to keep fighting.

  • Astrobot, Yotei, DS2, and I guess Gran Turismo? There are probably others, but it’s not like it was 20 years ago when games were usually just on one platform.

  • What kind of space alien wearing human skin makes a map where the sea is white and the land is blue

  • How dare this remake of a 30 year old Chinese JRPG look like my wholly original and unique French JRPG.

It’s interesting how IGN is observing a One China policy though. I wonder if the IGN comments section would still have posts about “Chinese knockoffs” if the commenters knew that the Sword and Fairy series is from Taiwan.

  • I’m not sure how that is any different from pre-2001 US militarism. The only difference before and after seem to be the specifics of whichever bullshit excuses various American governments have used for any given invasion or bombing or whatever.
