  • Under the current system "productivity" means making lots of money for your boss. If you work a job that's valuable to society like being a teacher you still don't get paid as much. Or if you're an artist or you aren't capable of working 40 hours a week you're seen as a less productive member of society.

Being a valued member of society shouldn't be based on working two full time jobs because if you can afford to pay all your bills and buy a nice car and house then that's proof of your success.

  • Right wingers are usually the ones to scream "communism!" When you suggest nationalising stuff.

  • Making things better for the community according to your ability to do so.

  • If you're legally required to have a degree or whatever related to the topic then all you have to do is require social media sites integrate some sort of display that shows the users qualification that they can submit to these sites if they want to use their platform to discuss such topics. Then when you see someone making consistent claims without displaying their credentials you have the evidence right there to deplatform them.

  • I can literally go and do this right now I wouldn't need authority.

But with an actual dedicated team they could collect this evidence and present it to a court for this issue.

  • Those people are not cops. I could right now investigate top youtubers to see if their platforms are being used to spread misinformation without displaying any credentials. And if you paid me to do that I wouldn't be a cop.

  • Right but it's not the only part. You're making it seem like I want more people on the streets with the power to arrest people for whatever.

  • I feel like you're confusing policing for investigating.

  • Why does it need a complete restructuring? Just have an agency who's purpose is investigating these specific crimes and then rely on regular cops to handle perpetrators.

  • I thought that pot plant was doing a goatse at first.

  • Cops aren't the same as say the FDA.

And there is harm when people take misinformed medical advice from people claiming to know better.

  • because things like libel

Why does it have to be like libel? Why not death threats? Advocating for an intellectual position on things like medicine can cause harm and should be regulated.

Sure, more cops is clearly a great solution!

I didn't say that you cunt. Why can it not be like what they did with Alex Jones where he was throwing a bunch of conspiracies around school shootings and parents who had their children murdered started getting harnessed so Alex Jones ended up facing consequences. This isn't "oh so you just want more police. Good."

  • Why's it unconsititutional? Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say whatever you want.

And there's no agency for it? Then make one.

  • Make it illegal and prosecute those that wind up with an audience. You can't stop everyone giving out bad advice but you can prevent people making it their career and building a large following.

  • I don't think it's a fundamentally bad idea by any stretch, but if it were implemented here in the US it would be instantly abused to dictate the political narrative.

I don't get this logic of "yeah it's a good idea but if we do it we'll do it wrong." Like okay... Then do it right then?

It's like when someone advocates for higher taxes on the rich and someone responds with "yeah that's great and all but the rich will just find loopholes" like okay. Then close the loopholes as well.

  • America has a guy in charge of the health department that says a bunch of wack shit. It's not just influencers but people with positions of power.

  • The filter needs to happen at the end.

  • It's not necessarily a nazi thing to not want people coming to your country while there's a housing crisis. But this is r/europe we're talking about so they're definitely complaining about it from a nazi angle.

  • There does need to be filters in place to prevent results like this though. They have a responsibility to prevent their algorithms doing stuff like this.
