  • Which then makes whatever business practice is causing damage actually cost the company money. That's the point. If the bottom line is dollars, making it so that illegal or unethical practices CANNOT make you money, because you'll be fined more than the amount you made. Or, if you REALLY want to split hairs, sure, you'll be forced to refund 100%, and then fined 10% on top of that. If that's REALLY the distinction you want to make, go for it. It's the same in the end.

  • My guy. Reading comprehension. I did not say 10%. I said 10% ON TOP OF ANY EARNINGS.

As in, if a corp earns 1 million, the fine levied would be 1.1 million.

Christ, go back to 2nd grade.

  • I mean, that's fair. We can talk specifics, just something to make sure the fine has teeth. How we decide to do that is another topic.

  • Reminder that it's all revenue PLUS 10%. So it effectively makes whatever bullshit money making scheme they want to use, cost money instead.

  • Exactly. Fines don't work for corporations or the mega wealthy because they don't have teeth. Pegging the fine to the actual income earned from the crime, and ensuring it's no longer more profitable to just pay the fine and continue doing what you're doing, is like, the only way to continue if we want to use fines as a deterrent.

  • This looks like an example of relative privation. There's no way for us to all agree on what's a "good" cause. There are so many things people fight for, so many wrongs to right. We'll never agree on the one that's the worst, and if that's the only metric we use for problem solving - that we solve the worst problem we can, and only that problem, we'll end up spending our time trying to solve the problem of what problem to solve and never actually do anything.

The reality is that we can work on many things at once. We can push something that will have a decent impact, such as attempting to cut cigarette consumption, while ALSO working on homelessness, famine, fascism, etc.

I'll happily engage with you on why banning cigarettes may not be a good idea, but it's not because we could be better spending our time on other "more important" matters.

  • Don't worry, I understood completely what you were saying lol. Most of our day to day is determined by things that are only real because we have decided they are. Morality, laws, language.. none of it's real, except that it is.

  • I mean, yeah, tony stark is an asshole. Bruce Wayne could do more for Gotham than Batman ever could. Elon IS like them - he only wants to do anything good (or anything at all) if it brings a spotlight to them

  • I get what you're saying, but they also have a point. Yes, men can wear makeup, but there are many reasons a lot of guys actively refuse that option. Are any of them "real", no, but considering the social nature of our species, even the ones that aren't "real" still matter to us

  • None of that is relevant. The issue being discussed here isn't one of whether or not it's currently possible to create fake nudes.

The original post being replied to indicated that, since AI, an artist, a photoshopper, whatever, is just creating an imaginary set of genitalia, and they have no ability to know if it's accurate or not, there is no damage being done. That's what people are arguing about.

  • That's fair. Hades wasn't as much my jam, story-wise, as bastion or transistor, for sure. It leaned heavily on tight mechanics and beautiful art, which were also staples of bastion and transistor. So in a sense, I agree. I think there is only so much creativity you can have in a storyline based on something like Greek mythology, and so I'd like to see them return to more original plots.

  • I may have just stopped too early to have gotten it in game. I only got to... The one after heavensward lol. But yeah, anyone who wants to complain about it, they can pound sand lol

  • Supergiant is the only studio to consistently deliver. Even their hands-down least interesting game, Pyre, isn't a bad game, it's just not for everyone. Everything else they have released has been golden.

I can't support prepurchase. Not even for supergiant. The industry has killed that for me. But yeah, I'll probably be there day 1, too.

  • The only time I ever saw mention of macros being an issue I ever saw was from super sweaty guilds, where every ounce of performance was needed. During any sane, reasonable play session, I've never seen anyone mention them.

  • Well that's ablist. :P

  • I have a middling case of aphantasia. I can create a basic image, blurry shapes, low detail, etc. with a lot of focus and concentration. I struggle immensely with faces I haven't seen a lot, and spatial orientation. Beyond that, I simply think in terms of words more than images.

As far as chess, this means I'm logically thinking out the moves, rather than mentally picturing it. I tend to get a bit overwheled trying to internalize the new board state after more than a couple of moves. I also don't play chess much, though, and would probably simply train that ability by playing more, just like someone without aphantasia will train visualizing more board shapes ahead.

  • It's hard to, for sure. I did love that album, and horror show lol. But yeah, it's impossible to support the Schaffer, for sure, but some of the music is just... Worth existing in the world still. /Shrug

  • This is the one that hurts me the most. Iced Earth was one of my BIG jams during highschool. Demons and Wizards is probably why I got I to guitar. Hearing about his involvement on the 6th was rough.

I still listen to their stuff from time to time. Some of it has some actually good messages, and almost all of it is just good music. Really have to separate the art from the artist sometimes. I will never see them live, can't buy their merch, and typically find less-legitimate sources for the music, when I really want to listen, so at least I'm not supporting them.

  • Poverty isn't just money. It's education and time as well. A less-well-off person will be less educated, and thus they won't really know or understand why consistently brushing is important. People who are struggling to keep afloat also tend to have multiple jobs, or other responsibilities. Brush time seems insignificant until you realize that some people's average day is: wake up after 2 or 3 hours sleep, eat a piece of bread if lucky, go to first job, work 4-8 hours, go to second job, go home, go to bed, do it again. There's no time and energy in there for such a simple maintenance item that is, strictly speaking, not required for life.
