The Democrats in question would likely say they're upset progressives are getting mad at Democrats as if they have the power to pass bills or do much of anything. Yelling "do something" isn't helping when your party doesn't have any power.
Ironically the most power Democrats have is thanks to the filibuster, which Progressives campaigned against for years.
I spent his first 4 years hyper tuned in and stressing, and I called 0 Senators, wrote 0 letters, made 0 impact. THAT is the wrong call.
Either stop paying attention or take the time to actually contribute to the political process. Call your local political party and ask what you can do.
It obviously won't get close to passing but it would be incredible for Democrats if it did. He has zero margin in the House, nothing major is passing into law except tax cuts. All his executive order policies are inflationary.
So either he's crashing the economy, taking the blame for continued inflation, or getting nothing of consequence done. And he'd be 83 and asking for four more years. He'd get crushed.
Not yet but the law gives the president authority to determine whether the company is a national security threat once it meets all the qualifications in the law. So his "90 day extension" is legally him saying "actually they're not a threat" for 90 days and then "actually they are a threat" after that.
This is actually (spoilers for terrible movie Scales: Mermaids Are Real) the climax of the movie Scales. Mermaids can control water and their blood heals people in that movie, so hunters are trying to get their blood and then one guy tries a last ditch bad guy move and the main character pulls all the water out of his body and he horrifically melts.
Kind of made me side with the hunters at that point it's a horrifying power.
They're shutting down instead of blocking new downloads, seems like a stunt. But the blocking of new downloads is obviously happening if SCOTUS doesn't step in...that's the law. That's just what the law says.
$2 Trillion was more than the discretionary budget of the US. It literally couldn't be done.
Which is why it was a stupid promise and literally anyone with any expertise could tell you that. Which shows you how unserious Musk is about this.
Now that he cut the promise in half and it's still politically impossible but not literally impossible, I reiterate my request...say how you plan to do it. Give us a rough idea what programs are being cut, even the easiest 20%.
By having the conversation about the number alone, we're buying his political premise. The money is not there for no reason, these are democratically popular government programs, that's why they exist. So which popular programs are you getting rid of to save this money?
Matthew says he hanged himself, Luke (in Acts) says he...bought a field and burst open in it.
Acts 1 18:
"With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out"
Doesn't change your point really I just think it's a fun inconsistency to think about. One option so much weirder than the other.
The US came back from a US president hiring private goons to spy on his political opponents.
The US came back from a US president illegally selling weapons to Iran to fund right wing militias in South America.
The US came back from a US cabinet member taking literal bribes from oil companies to give them oil drilling rights on federal land.
The US came back from a US president illegally firing a cabinet member and installing his own lackey.
But it didn't HAVE to.
I don't think there's really such a thing as a 'point of no return' for a Democracy. But it is possible to get to a point after which you don't return.
