  • I don't understand how this level of depraved evil became so normal in our society. What happened to literally any ambition to evolve?

  • Spoiler alert: they can't!

Starbucks has been spending tens of millions of dollars a year trying to figure out how to grow coffee in non-traditional coffee growing regions like hot lowlands where it doesn't get cool at night.

These farmers will be abandoned by their colonial overlords, and replaced with new farmers in different areas.

  • Achingly unfunny.

  • What the heck is a French onion cheese burger

  • Just to be clear - Hermes is also a fucking waste of money that serves no purpose other than to signal your membership in a club that has no value to society.

  • Enjoying pineapple on pizza is in the same realm as enjoying jelly on a peanut butter sandwich or a twist of lemon in a martini.

Make your jokes if you must but know I'm scoffing at your unsophisticated potato palate. 😉

  • I sorta disagree though, based on my experience with llms.

The email it generates will need to be read carefully and probably edited to make sure it conveys your point accurately. Especially if it's related to something as serious as insurance.

If you already have to specifically create the prompt, then scrutinize and edit the output, you might as well have just written the damn email yourself.

It seems only useful to write slop that doesn't matter that only gets consumed by other machines and dutifully logged away in a slop container.

  • Incorrect! It is just a pizza that somebody enjoys. Hope that helps.

  • This isn't as true in tech companies as it was in traditional companies years ago. Most high level engineers take an individual contributor role that allow you to be promoted without becoming a manager. At Google it's called a staff role. At Amazon it's a principal role.

  • I have a bunch of uhd discs that are full of meandering loading crap. The HD Blu Ray era was worse, and that's what I think drove people away. It's obviously too little too late on the newer stuff.

  • For real though

  • I genuinely believe more people would have kept uaing physical media if they made it more convenient just to pop in a movie and play it.

Everytime I put in a 4k blu Ray, there's like 40 seconds of useless loading screens, unskippabble warnings, menu animations, and other bullshit. It feels like the old days of massively overcooked multimedia "experiences" in the worst way possible.

  • What's the make and model number? The link is funky if your AMZN location isn't set to UK

  • Every other queens of the stone age record is an instant classic. They're probably my favorite band and I genuinely dislike half their stuff.

  • Counterpoint: congress does their jobs exactly how their corporate owners want them to. Congress does not serve the best interests of the people.

  • I have adhd, anxiety, and depression. My spouse has anxiety, cpsd, and depression. We really enjoyed remote work before we were called back to the office.

  • I think it's pretty scary. Completely overwhelming the media and internet with near-infinite variations of their propaganda is the most powerful way I can imagine for them to carry out the stuff you're more worried about, with even less resistance.

It's not the lack of AI safeguards themselves that worry me, it's the constant stream of propaganda drowning out reality that worries me.

  • I've tried a couple and they all return worse results on average. Scrolling down past the LLM garbage and paying attention to which results are real is less work than re-querying DDG 4 times to get a decent result.

I haven't tried kagi, but I've heard similar anecdotes here on Lemmy. I'm not opposed to paying. The ad model is unsustainably at best.

  • Not currently. Except for starvation wage retail. Tech hiring is still mostly frozen and smaller companies tend to just copy larger ones.
