  • They didn't choose them so much as adopt them. They were assigned by a cartoonist named Thomas Nast in the late 1800's. He used them to make fun of the parties and people loved his cartoons so much the animals he used just kind of stuck in popular culture for them.

  • I see a lot of folks here saying "based on inflation since X, item Y SHOULD only cost Z." I want to point out those inflation numbers the government gives out every year are complete bullshit. Inflation has been WAY more than 30% over the last decade and a half or so (not you but someone above mentioned 30% as the inflation number since the aughts)

    They change their basket of goods to artificially deflate inflation numbers, it is way way way higher than the 2% a year that they claim is the average. Add greed on top and you get the crazy insane prices we see today. For a 2% inflation to really work for everyone and not just the rich assholes then minimum wage needs to increase proportionately. Should force minimum wage up the stated inflation rate once a year. So every year min wage increases by 2% (or more depending on the actual inflation rate).

  • The amount of people who do not even know what a primary election is blows my mind. They apparently think the candidates are just magically pulled out of the air and not decided by the 39 old white dudes that seem to be the only ones except me out voting in every primary.   • No matter how bad it gets during his Presidency it will be Biden and Obama's fault and he will have spent so much tireless effort to fix it that it may still be bad but just think of how much worse it would have been without Trump daddy here?!?   • You do know that "they" do not pick the candidates right? It is called a primary election and it is where anyone registered in the party can go and vote for WHO they want to be the candidate. It is the part of the election that is voted on by the tiniest little minority of both parties but has the absolute biggest impact on the race.

    You don't like the shit ass candidate for your party? If you did not vote in the primaries then you have no right to complain. Go vote in the primaries and complain away. Otherwise suck it up and suffer, just like all the non voters who are hating Trump at the moment. Got no one to blame but yourselves.

  • It is a shortening of "Traditional wife" as in a wife who complies with the old male/female value system. IE the man works and provides for and protects the family while the woman stays at home, cooks, cleans the house, watches the kids, does not talk back to her man because he is the head of the family and runs shit. Her job basically is to make life easier for him and raise his kids.

  • On the plus side mentioning Jury Nullification during the selection process on a case you do not want anything to do with and they will cut you so fast your head will be spinning. Just knowing about it makes you a threat to the prosecutors.

  • That is what Jury Nullification means, the jury ignores the law (usually because it is being misapplied or the law itself is bullshit) and finds the defendant not guilty, regardless of whether they did the "crime" or not.
