  • apparently this works on Android as well, see other replies :)

  • Just don’t use it.

    making me repeat myself... grumble...

If I want to keep in contact with my family (and I do), I have no choice but to use it.

  • Well what do you know, it worked! Thanks!

I allowed limited access and then selected nothing. Now I can send images and videos by sharing them from elsewhere.

  • play store. what's preload?

  • In many countries around the world it's the only way people communicate. If I want to keep in contact with my family (and I do), I have no choice but to use it.

I've tried to get them on Telegram or Signal, no luck.

  • And apps have to support it, which WhatsApp doesn't

Edit: I was wrong, see below

  • maybe they're serving different versions of the app to different regions or something. I am 100% sure this doesn't work for me.

  • Similar situation with WhatsApp on Android: you can't share images or videos without giving the app full access to your entire filesystem. You also can't video or voice call without giving the app full phone permissions.

Other apps happily let you do all of those things. You can just Share an image from some other app. But nope, WhatsApp just refuses.

  • I'll take it, and I stand corrected.

  • My thoughts exactly lol

  • This is the second post in a row where I see Douglas Adams referenced.

  • I can see the similarity but IMO this isn't that close to Douglas Adams.

Edit: did DA make a lot of puns and wordplay? Specifically taking well-known phrases but using their literal interpretation?

  • too late at that point :)

  • Interesting list. My handwriting is mostly what's called "print handwriting" here, but my a and t are like the D'Nealian ones. And needless to say, my handwriting is not as pretty as any of these.

  • I never learned cursive, my native tongue uses an entirely different script, so for learning English as a second language, separate letters sufficed. This is what all cursive text looks like to me. I can never read it, even if I try really hard.

  • Only heard about him for the first time recently, in the context of the Stop Killing Games initiative. He spoke in support of it (which is a good thing, yay), and is apparently involved in some way in the drama that gave SKG the boost it needed.

Trying to figure out who the hell he is and how he ties into it, I watched one of his videos on YouTube (reacting to someone else's video about SKG). Instantly got the impression that he's an asshole.. But at least he's on the right side when it comes to SKG.

  • Yup, that about matches my thought process when I made that comment. Economies of scale make the complexity irrelevant.

  • Honestly I barely saw anything of her, I just knew she existed. Now she's notorious for that 180 in the public's perception of her, which is why she came to mind.

She's far from the first, though. Very different circumstances, but Bill Cosby also springs to mind.

As for Taylor Swift, I know about as much about her as I did about Ellen, which is very little. I never got any icky vibes from her though, besides the inevitably hypocrisy that comes with being filthy rich and mega famous (private jet + preaching about the environment). Not enough to make her out as the bad guy.
