  • Okay I have the jig clamped to a board here. I use a bit with a 3/4” diameter. If I run it down the length of this jig it will cut a 3/4” dado. So to make the jig I glued a piece of 1/4” plywood onto a wider piece of 1/4” plywood. Then I used a 3/4” router bit to cut through the wider piece by running it against the glued on upper piece.

So wherever I clamp this jig is exactly where my 3/4” dado will go

Here is the circular saw jig that is made and used the same way

    Did I explain it well?

  • Cool project! I’ve made a jig to do this that’s so much simpler. It’s the same thing as a circular saw jig. I just clamp it onto where I want a dado

  • That was so rad. I love the fleshy pad on the chest and the weird mouth placenta balloon

  • Looks great!

  • Looks great! Thanks for sharing

  • Oh I’m so glad to hear that! Thank you for updating me. Post the project so we can see?

  • lol thanks bro

  • Haha that’s very nice I’m glad you were there to share the experience with me. Yes I absolutely would make it again I loved making it.

And then I could use this mirror to create a new stencil which was the hardest part of it

  • Thank you!

Ya I don’t love that either but I felt it was necessary for structure.

    I’m super proud of it!

  • Awesome! That’s just the look I wanted. I love that style of art and I wanted something like that

  • You nailed it! I started with a stencil I made from hardboard using a jigsaw. Then router And the tight corners with chisel

  • Haven’t decided yet. What would you do?

  • Haha yes it has been so nerve wracking until just this point.

  • It’s going better! I’m almost done I can’t wait to show you. Thanks for asking

  • Oh that’s alright. I’ll get it right next time For sure I’ll post it!

  • I love that. You should post some of his work here. We would love to see it.

I changed the icon - unfortunately the rectangle image doesn't fit great in the circle but I think folks will get it. At least you and I do. If you check out our sidebar I wrote a little something there too. Thanks!

  • I love New Yankee Workshop! My favorite piece is the Shaker clock. So simple and beautiful. I want to make that someday

Anyway go ahead and send me a thumbnail and I’ll change it. We occasionally have woodworking contests here and will set the winning entry as the thumbnail, but this one has been up since the summer so let’s mix it up! Keep it fresh and sharp

  • Hmm I wonder if your project has been stored in room temperature or was it outside in the cold?

I might use a solvent to wipe it down, with a light 220 grit sanding, then try again.

I’m also wondering if you might have skipped a step. You should apply the oil, wait 5 minutes or so, then wipe off the excess. Then keep it in room temperature for a day. Repeat three times and then buff or polish.

  • I love it too! Where did you find this beautiful piece of wood and did you recognize it’s potential right away?

  • Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make
