I can't remember the name of the documentary I watched unfortunately but this kinda shit is still going on in northern Mexico. A bunch of Mormons packed up to Mexico when the US made polygamy illegal. They've got compounds and militias, and occasionally battle with local cartels.
Jesus also said that he did not come to abolish the old law but to fulfill it, essentially saying that all the old testament or Torah shit still stands. People like to overlook this when it's convenient.
We say "no ifs, ands, or buts" in the US as well.
