  • I was referring to 'you guys' loving violence, taking 'you guys' to mean 'people', and yes people do love violence.

    By 'love' I mean a positive response to violence.

    ...and we all experience that, don't we? You might not like wanton, mindless violence, but we celebrate violence everywhere, every day. Extra especially when the violence is considered to be an act of justice directed at someone considered to be 'evil'

    A good recent example would be the Charlie Kirk assassination. Have you noticed the guillotine imagery throughout social media recently?

    ...or history. Or movies. Or music. Or books. and so on, all are permeated by violence.

  • In a way, it's nice to finally have it all on the table.

    The USA has operated without regard to "democracy" and the "free world" since at least Nixon, probably sooner; they've often opposed democracy, even while claiming the exact opposite.

    So, good, mask off, cards on the table (and even this is a mask, as in there are layers of control above Steven, he's just a mook).

  • In the USA, this is known as the "old switcheroo".

    Our politicians are infamous for doing the exact opposite of their platform.

    For example, Reagan ran on sealing the borders and isolationism, only to declare amnesty for border hoppers and revel in international intervention.

    Biden ran on increasing the minimum wage and other working class American concerns. Did he do this? No.

    Our major parties aren't actually concerned with their platforms, that's performative.

  • Here's the rub... those practical moderates FUEL the fanatics (donations and tithing), and they also provide the fundamentalists with a smoke screen of respectability.

    They're a huge part of the problem. The fundies depend on the moderates.
