  • Play with keyboard and mouse - makes hitting things much easier. Redesign all mechs to have max armour. For most of the campaign bringing as many SRMs to the field as possible is good. Focus fire with your lance mates - makes them much more effective. Remove JJ - useless. LBX10s are great. Remove useless single LRM 5s and 10s from most things - put a lot of lrms on mechs with good quirks - Archer, Longbow. Keep moving, ideally always at least 45 degrees to your target

  • Temu are stealing her work and profiting from it. It matters - clearly there are a bunch of people who can afford to keep art alive who are spending their money at Temu rather than with her. Sort that out - currently it’s pretty much a risk free crime for the third party seller- and then art can be less dependent on public spending and thus more robust

  • Ah - a sensible comment in a thread about a wealth tax 😁. Yes - wealth taxes do raise money if they’re on things that are hard to move - so land, property. Also death duties - add up the estate, take a percentage. Anything else is more trouble than it’s worth. Better to effective and enforced income and consumption taxes.

    And no getting away from the fact that it doesn’t solve the problem - to do that most people will have to pay more tax, and government needs to get much more efficient.

  • Obviously true? In real life I’ve found it’s often worth doing a bit of thinking / effort to find a third option though. Not always possible though - like when voting - though I don’t think picking the least worst (imho) option when it comes to political representation is immoral

  • I’m sorry to say that I think you’re stuck while the father is being so useless. If his view is that his daughters role in life is to moon about until some guy comes along to take care of her, and she is also of the same view, then I think the best you can do is to be supportive of anything that gets her out of the house (including useless studies) and exposed to more of the world and different world views. Hopefully she’ll come to her senses and husband can then support her in her new choices. You have the sympathy of a random internet stranger.

  • Father of a daughter here. I think your husbands position is deplorable. I want the best for my daughter, and education gives her choices. It sets her up to be self reliant. If she chooses to go trad wife (can’t see it) then that’s her look out, but at least she’ll be to change her mind if she wants to. It’s much harder work to get these choices back in later life - get them now!
