Honestly there probably are better solutions, but every time some Silicon Valley pet project gets a ton of venture capital and starts "disrupting" so it's everywhere all the time . . . that's what most people are gonna start using by default.
So we don't get to see better options truly adopted, and it's incredibly frustrating...
Cool. I agree. Was just covering my butt online, I suppose.
Especially because I don't want to come off as anti-education or anti-intellectual, but the gatekeepers to that education are so beyond corrupt at this point.
Ha! What an odd coincidence, and yet I'm not surprised!
Well, for the record, the webcomic cat would do things like get distracted and lose mousey toys during surgery, and I'd still trust him over Oprah's favorite daytime human scat commentator. Lol
Best of luck on your journey engineering the perfect diss joke. XD
(non adult directed activities aren't counted at all)
I guess this closes certain avenues of BSing the system but also, wow that feels crazy arbitrary and unfair. Damn, it makes a lot of sense that this would be some kinda unspoken rule of what counts.
Not to be too conspiracy-brain but it really fits that notion that modern schooling exists solely to subsidize corporate recruitment.
"We made our own film/robots/fundraiser/business!" 👎👎
"I did several months' worth of free labor for a wealthy multinational conglomerate!"
Although, my experience definitely differed. I tried the "Get a job out of highschool" thing, but there were lines around the block consisting of former cubicle-dwellers with 3 kids applying to my local In-N-Out Burger, so stuff was bleak. I was fortunate I was able to wait a little while.
Apparently it's turned into a specific brand name for a few companies, but here's where the term and technique came from, if you or anybody else is interested. :)
I think the biggest messaging is threat messaging. Working in a library, it's easy to pick out the Republican shill books because they're always about "War with these people", "The battle for this", "The fight over this other thing and why it's worse now more than ever", "Why the left are coming for you and hate your country", "Crime is out of control and it's a war zone", etc...
They first get their marks to believe "Everyone is out to get me.", then they push the idea that their incompetent blowhard of a "strongman" bully is going to fight all these imaginary threats like "regulation" and "diversity" and "immigration", to secure resources and opportunities for them.
Resources and opportunities the fascists themselves stole to enrich themselves, of course.
The biggest factor for continued support here is what a lot of cults also prey on: Even in spite of overwhelming evidence, the human ego really, really doesn't want to admit it's been duped.
There is SO much good potential for solid propaganda messaging here. Look how scary and threatening these gasmasked brown-suited goons are. They even got the polarized lenses in Villainous Henchmen red?!?! What a GIFT!
They're like the Combine or XCOM 2's Advent. Heck they even got a Killzone Helghast thing going on!
C'mon artists! Let's take this inspiration and put up elaborate guerilla murals and wheatpaste posters all over town.
Imagery and art that can't be ignored:
"Look at these filthy storm troopers, dragging away children, pointing their big lethal guns at expectant mothers and nuns and doctors and puppies!"
Get the message across to the ignorant uninvolved masses: These aren't the friggin Paw Patrol. They do nothing for "safety." They don't target criminals. (A bunch of muppet-brains actually try to say this with a straight face. It's mind-blowing.)
Show them unmistakably as they are: They're pitiless and alien, they're evil, they're scary, and they're a Bad Thing.
If you and your community don't help stop them TODAY, they'll laugh as they throw you and your neighbors into a van after shooting your dog.
The best artists use references, and the photo is right here. Let's get to work!
(PSA: If you do this digitally, don't forget to upload your "fan art" with TOR! 😉)
Bingo. I always try to think "What is it trying to be and can I take enjoyment from that?"
I'll even enjoy a "bad" movie if it seems like everyone involved was having a blast making it. I just shift my perspective to "What if this were my friends from highschool showing me a movie they made?" and I end up being a lot less judgy.
Life's too short to be too picky to be entertained.
People sleep on Blender's "VSE" capabilities so much. I feel like an extension to make it a little bit more turnkey like Kadenlive could be helpful, but it's a VERY good video editor and I think few users really know how much it can do in that realm.
Gimp's latest version is much cleaner and a way smoother experience. I'm actually really excited about it. :)
Totally agreed on Krita. It's a joy to use. My drawing and painting could certainly be better, but I definitely don't feel like the software is what's holding me back!
