  • I swear to God, the government has done a good job of making people forget about the Snowden leak.

Many governments, all over the world, but especially the U.S. and China, can and are installing physical hardware backdoors into essentially every consumer grade phone and computer in the market.

  • respectable, nice local cops You lost me there. No such thing

  • Yes, this is the exact same in the United States. There is no difference. Except maybe that if you are pulled over by a police officer without ID, you can be fined or even arrested. Otherwise, what you have described is the exact same situation as the U.S.

  • You see, in the US, we're required to have ID as well, but we have to pay for them, keep them updated, etc.

  • The only think I know Chick-Fil-A for is funding conversion therapy camps and fascist politicians. That's enough for me to never step foot in one

  • Bezos explicitly undercut the competition for years to drive all of the competition out of business. Amazon took as much time from 1997-2016 to make as much profit as they did in 2017, which is also (not) coincidentally when they hit peak market saturation and were able to start raising their prices.

So what you're talking about was real, but it wasn't like, "back when Amazon was good", they were just preparing for what they are now. Having a huge monopoly on just about everything has always been their win condition, and they're no where near done winning.

  • The auto parts store across the street from the grocery store

  • When I moved to my current town, the first thing I did was figure out where all the grocery stores, the post office, and the library are. Do you really rely on advertising to tell you what to do? You can just see grocery store and say, "Yes, they probably sell cheese" and then go in?

  • Umm... Source?

  • It's not free. It costs hundreds of dollars. The user above may have had it covered by insurance, but that's a different thing. Entirely NOT free

  • This has been a not so secret thing for a long time

  • How many people did you die for?

  • There is no "back to a barter system", though, because barter isn't what predated capitalism, it's what exists in a capitalist system when the system fails and people need something other than money.

For most of her man history, we primarily operated under various styles of gift economies that are more akin to modern conceptions of mutual aid as as envisioned by socialism and especially anarchism.

  • Yeah, it's scary how much people don't remember/don't know

  • Right, but how is the "$" supposed to be pronounced? Is is Microcashsoft? Microdollarsoft? It's just not very intuitive

  • Being tribal is intrinsic to humanity, but that doesn't imply borders. Borders are a social construct and product of the state, they aren't just some natural thing. A coyote doesn't give a shit about the border, and neither should you. How are you so willing to let others tell you what to do and how to do it?

  • There's a BIG gap between open borders and "no borders and world in harmony". The U.S. had relatively open borders with Canada and Mexico, like, 50 years ago.

Also, why did you believe that borders are intrinsic to humanity? To my knowledge we've managed to live without them for the VAST majority of human history

  • I'm just confused here about how "M$" is supposed to be read
