  • I have been playing so much Lies of P in the last week. It's so much fun!

I just beat Laxasia last night. Probably for me the hardest fight in the game (yet). She taught me: That face-tanking if been doing? Well, I gotta stop that. She can do so much in a single hit, but the real problem is that it's never a single hit with her; she has so long attack chains. I need to watch a hitless level 1 fight with her or something of someone deflecting everyone of her attacks. I was kinda mentally prepared for her to have a phase 2 when I first depleted her health bar. But damn, she goes full anime on you! Deflecting lightning bolts is super fun, and she is so incredibly fast. I'm glad she is way squishier in her second phase.

I'm probably going to beat Lies of P this weekend -- depending on how much game is left and how much time I have. Then, next week, I'm probably going to start the DLC?

    My favorite mash-up is Souls + Open-World ;) (I'm a massive Elden Ring fan)

But beyond that? My brain is currently too deep into "classical" Souls games. But I'm really interested in what I know of Expedition 33, parrying in my turn-based combat? Also I bought Hollow Knight forever ago for like 7€. Souls + Metroidvania. That game always gets such high praise. I gotta play it at some point,, even though I'm not the biggest fan of Metroidvania's … simply because I haven't played any yet, but you gotta start somewhere.

  • Welcome… You come often. You enjoy things. I like finding things. I like you.

I know telling Moore to remain sad forever is gameplay-wise the correct decision (You get the best armor in the game immediately and you make the Leda fight way easier), but it breaks my heart every time :(

Also if you choose "Put it behind you" and you kill him in the Leda fight his last words are "Sad, forever?".

  • I've been playing Souls games almost exclusively for over a year, and I'm still having fun, so I'm definitely not fatigued yet. And even if I don't want to (re)play another Soulslike anymore, than I'm simply going to play something else.

New releases generally don't interest me; I have yet to buy or play a Souls-like game at release. If a new game releases that interests me, Soulslike or not, I'm bookmarking it and remembering it in 2 to 40 months.

  • I knew I heard Geppetto's voice somewhere before, but just couldn’t place it. He really has quite the range!

Blaidd's voice is so comfortable to listen to :)

Eileen makes me always think of her line: * A hunter must hunt.*It's burnt in my brain in her voice.

Who is your favorite Voice Actor in a Soulslike?

  • Golden Vow AoW and Exalted Flesh and Cragblade need 0 levels invested.

You can put all of your levels in strength for max BONK.

  • I don’t use buffs, because it would take longer to buff-up than to actually kill the boss.

If you do want to learn about buffs, fextralife has an actually decent page about Buffs and Debuffs.

  • Cat petting achieved!

  • The Quickstep Skill in Elden Ring gives you immediate i-frames on button-press.

  • I want to pet the cat in Lies of P, but it keeps hissing at me when I try :(

  • I'm currently playing Lies of P, and I’m having a blast! I needed a bit to get in to the flow, but now I'm really enjoying it. The only parts where I struggled were in my opinion, the two best Boss fights yet: The Big Police Man™ and the Archbishop Eldritch Thing™.

The Police Guy was the point where deflecting really clicked for me. I could have defeated him in the same way I defeated bosses and mini-bosses before then with a hit-and-run style, but standing before him, and trying and timing the deflects to his giant swings was just so satisfying. Guard Regain is, in my opinion, an awesome mechanic: it not only makes missing a defect less punishing, but then also forces you to be more aggressive.

For the Bishop: I defeated his first phase on my first attempt; it did cost me most of my heals and buffs but I got it done. But that was only his first phase. He then eviscerated me almost immediately. It took me 3 attempts to get back to his second phase to learn it. My winning attempt was very satisfying: first phase only chip damage, no heals used (the big guy is very satisfying to deflect); the second phase was more of a scramble, since I needed a bit more spatial awareness to deflect his smaller body.

These fights really made me feel that not my character got better, but that I, as a player, got better. This satisfying experience is what Souls games are really about for me.

Currently, in Lies of P, I'm actually blocking quite a bit. Sure, it's mostly just missing the deflect, but I'm also blocking some attacks and follow-ups without trying (yet) to deflect them, just to get in a favorable position (Guard Regain actually encourages a bit).

But generally, I'm more in the Dodge & Weave camp. I also got my start in Bloodborne and took that playstyle over to other Souls games. I might use a shield as a utility item, maybe for the buff it gives -- looking at you Grass Crest Shield -- or to parry, but seldom for actually blocking and almost never in boss fights.

  • In Elden Ring, no character cares what your gender is.

When you marry Ranni, she doesn't care what your gender is. In fact, you can even change it two minutes beforehand if you'd like!

  • For those who don't know, the Sentry's Torch allows you to see the invisible assassins.

  • You don't need to sign up to audiobookbay. Just paste the hash into your torrent client.

  • Why do people try so hard to be beautiful? We cats are born beautiful, of course. Hee hee…

  • I think he looks kinda goofy ;)

  • Duo Bosses: Fromsoft tries to make them work again and again. And they can be quite enjoyable, as seen with Ornstein and Smough. But they can also be quite jank. Two seperate entities trapping you between with no real way to escape. Getting ganked like that can sometimes lessen the enjoyment. Fromsoft's modern solution to this problem is to make one of the enemies mostly passive. I just killed the Fell Twins two minutes ago. Here you simply kill the first one with the axe, and then second one. That doesn't really add to the boss fight. Some are a bit more enjoyable like the Crucible Duo, where you need to constantly dodge Siluria's Knight's weapon art.But an interesting idea would be to have one Boss with two bodies, where the actions of one body informs the actions of the other body. Confusing? Okay, example: They did this with one interaction with the Putrescent Knight, when he dismounts his horse. The knight and the horse attack seperatly but predictably. I think a boss fight with this as a base concept would be interesting.

I'm currently in NG+7 rocking a bleed build -- sometimes Dual Spears, sometimes Dual Curved Swords, always cool. After having done all 7-ish diffferent ending on a single savefile, I'm now doing a victory lap and doing Ranni's Ending again. One funny skip I used in the last game cycle and I'm now going to do again is: skipping Godskin Duo with the Hand of Malenia. It's a bit tricky to do, but it allows you to come back from the wrong side and fight them after defeating Radabeast.

  • Oh, I knew I had seen it somewhere in lemmy!

I searched all [BB] tagged posts in this comm but couldn't find it.

  • In my experience Blasphemous Claw is more for the style points than anything else, and it is indeed very stylish. It's easier to abuse the guaranteed opening you get at the start of Phase 2 and take advantage of his low Stance of 80 for an easy Stance-Break.
