  • Here’s an alternative then:

Israel makes an effort to provide a space away from the fighting, where civilians can live until “Hamas is destroyed”. It doesn’t even have to be outside of Gaza, but it’s arguably a better security idea to make a new camp inside Israel proper

The IDF made a big noise about ‘defeating’ Al-Qassam in northern Gaza around Gaza City, that was an opportunity to provide a safe area.

    • Pick an open area, there’s several in the agricultural zones up north
    • Perform through search for weapons caches, tunnels, etc
    • Create tent city for displaced civilians
    • Offer safe passage (but like, actually do it this time) and as people arrive you process them for signs of terrorist activity - explosives swab tests, checked against known terrorist lists, etc

It won't be perfect at keeping militants OUT of the camp, but it would help keep civilians AWAY from the fighting

  • That is literally the opposite of decades of think tank, academic, and military research into Counter Insurgency strategies. You need to show the civilians living in the area that there’s another way via political process, and that rejecting violence is the way forward. Al-Qassam exists and is given permissive operations inside of Gaza because the people view them as the best route to a future. Throwing stones at a brick wall isn’t effective, but to Palestinians in a hopeless scenario it’s understandable to take up violence when the alternative is ethnic destruction in slow-motion.

Israel isn’t offering any solution but continued suffering, displacement as refugees, or ethnic cleansing. I disagree with the Palestinian resistance, but we are here because of years of failed peace processes where Israel rejects the option of dignity for Palestine.

  • …and don’t show too much concern for the civilians in the midst who die as a result of IDF actions

“Hamas uses them like human shields, we warned them to leave the hospital/the house/the street/Gaza City/Khan Younis/Gaza entirely”

If someone takes a hostage/uses human shields, you don’t stoop to the same level and disregard that human life, bombing/shooting anyway bc ‘muh military necessity’

  • Repackaging corpo press releases is not journalism nor science. They should be ashamed to publish it in a journal next to actual science and discovery

  • Russia proper is geofenced and cannot use Starlink at all

Russian citizens and individual members of militias/armed forces are buying terminals (via smugglers) and using them within Ukraine

Short of blocking the Russia side of the front line as it changes daily, they can play whack-a-mole with terminals used by Russian/aligned forces

  • If you or I pull an ‘oopsie’ and underreport your income by a factor of ten, you’d be in jail

Orphan crushing machine must continue so Line Goes Up

  • Israel tried that - Gaza was left to the Palestinians

Interesting phrasing there implying Israel granted Gaza, instead of Israel failing to keep to its commitments in Oslo II.

And yes there were illegal settlements in northern Gaza until 2005, and powerful elements of Israeli leadership are pushing to colonize Gaza completely or in majority.

Permanent embargo, domination, apartheid and collective punishment of Palestinians is not a path to peace.

  • Easy, the one thing literally the whole world keeping telling Israel is the best way out of this situation - a viable future for Palestinians. Unitary secular state, or a two-state solution. Otherwise the choice left is increasing the collective punishment against Palestinians as a whole.

They are denied a future by Israel, leaving the door open for outside actors are co-opting that anger into violence. The present path Israel is taking will end in either displacement, ethnic cleansing, or outright genocidal destruction.

  • When I saw this pop up yesterday, I was really hoping this was fake/a constructed narrative based around physical facts on the ground in an information restricted war zone

I keep finding myself going “no fucking way that’s true, that has to be anti-Semitic propaganda” at stories like this, and more often than not I am proven wrong - yes it’s real, yet the truth doesn’t matter

  • At first I thought I was going insane. Watching the body count climb day by day, then an airstrike of a refugee camp kills 300-odd civilians, and you think “Big media outlets are running this story, it’s not being buried, this must be it, people will say something publicly”

We like to think we’re better than Weimar Germans, but we’re not. It’s a big state that casts a large shadow over ‘acceptable’ discussions, and a lot of people are scared to say something.

  • I genuinely hope you’re a low effort edgelord, or baiting for anti-Semitic comments to ‘prove’ the world hates Jews.

The actions of Israel in the last three months has set the stage for generations of traumatized and hateful Gazans to fuel future cycles of violence, and drove huge divides between alliances - just as Hamas, Iran, and the hardline Islamists wanted.

  • When you read about the Holocaust and the Nazis, you like to imagine you'd be the good guy. You'd fight the Nazis, you'd free the concentration camps. But apparently I wouldn't. Apparently I would have just sat there paralyzed, incapable of doing anything about the genocide I see every day. Unable to think of any way to help. All I can do is retweet and protest and write a stupid blog post. I feel so stupid.

Paul wrote this over three months ago, and nothing has substantially changed. I’m sickened by the news and images I see, but shaken to the core that people are okay with this. That there’s people, far farrrr away from the looming specter of state violence or non-state terrorism, who are cheering for more death and destruction

  • Ooof, my knees 💀

  • The crazy part of this situation is that Sisi is arguably the most pro-Israel leader in Egypt’s history.

Egypt has tried to play the middle road between the Arab League, US global and regional muscle, and Israel for a long time, but understandably doesn’t want roughly 2 million Gazan refugees arriving overnight into their fragile economy, nor wants to stand idle as Gaza gets pounded.

  • Biden enables Israeli aggression by providing military support. This isn’t important for the IDF in Gaza, they can crush that nut solo. What it is important for is Hezbollah. Biden’s unlimited support takes that threat (mostly) off the board, so the IDF can ratchet and ratchet the pressure on Gaza without having to be concerned about their neighbor to the north who take issue with said treatment of Gaza (and their occupation of the Golan Heights).

Remove that support and Israel cannot ignore diplomatic solutions with Hezbollah (as Israel has been), or at the very least is looking at a two front war - a situation Israel historically has avoided at all cost. THAT is leverage that could work.

Otherwise Netanyahu gets to take the US for a ride, as long as “the unthinkable” isn’t threatened. Israel is the one destroying 70 years of UN & US led peace efforts, and their overreaction is fueling this crisis.

  • Egypt is mad as fuck throughout this whole ordeal, they’ve been forced (repeatedly) into a bad situation;

    • Suez traffic is down after Houthi attacks on shipping, reducing government income from Suez transit fees - 2% of GDP is no joke to lose overnight, especially for a poorer nation like Egypt
    • Domestic pressure from within, ranging from Arab/Muslim/humanitarian solidarity with Gaza, to their own Palestinian diaspora population that wants their government to be more forceful with Israel and/or the international community
    • Political pressure from without, to maintain a status quo that increasingly does not serve their interests
    • Forced to be the only viable transit point for aid and personnel in/out of Gaza, a security nightmare they never wanted
    • And now Israel is saying that THEY need to take over the land along the border, because “any other arrangement would not ensure the demilitarization that we seek”

All while Israel consistently blames Egypt for all smuggling that occurs into Gaza. And Egypt is moving military hardware to the border now.

Your move Biden, you can stop this TODAY.

  • Impossible, Biden sanctioned four people and wagged his finger “Stop that malarkey” they told us that would stop the settlers

  • “It’s complicated”

    =

“Though I recognize the present day situation is pretty fucked up, I’m afraid to speak out because extremist Zionists have purposely distorted the definition of anti-semetism to include legitimate criticism of the government of Israel, and they have harassed, doxxed, and ‘canceled’ people as they see fit”

It’s disgusting watching how the horrors of the holocaust and all the pain and suffering the Jewish people experience during pogroms and actual anti-semitism throughout history, get hijacked by zealots for their political causes, and is used as a shield to stifle debate and nuance
