  • I’ll agree there’s huge potential for ‘assistant’ roles (exactly like you’re using) to give a concise summary for quick understanding. But LLMs aren’t knowledgeable like an accredited professor or tutor is, understanding the context and nuance of the topic. LLMs are very good at scraping together data and presenting the shallowest of information, but their limits get exposed quickly when you try to go into a topic.

For instance, I was working a project that required very long term storage (+10 years) with intermittent exposure to open air, and was concerned about oxidation and rust. ChatGPT was very adamant that desiccant alone was sufficient (wrong) and that VCI packs would last (also wrong). It did a great job of repackaging corporate ad-copy and industrial white papers written by humans, but not of providing an objective answer to a semi complex question.

  • MH17 was shot down by a Russian Buk system given to the separatists, and likely with polite green ‘advisors’ nearby to set up and operate the SAM. Once they realized their fuckup they rushed it across the Donbas and back to Russia, but it was spotted several times en route both ways.

If that didn’t count, why would much harder to prove jamming trigger A5? NATO forces (yes, even Poland) are not risking escalation on their territory, even if that means Russian helicopters and cruise missiles can ‘temporarily get lost’ in NATO airspace.

  • I still haven’t seen a use of AI that doesn’t serve state or corporate interests first, before the general public. AI medical diagnostics comes the closest, but that’s being leveraged to justify further staffing reductions, not an additional check.

The AI-captcha wars are on, and no matter who wins we lose.

  • I’m very interested if this serves multiple purposes for the Biden administration, aimed at weakening the Likud-coalition given the ultra-orthodox/Haredi factions are the political kingmakers currently for Bibi - not just general pressure by the US against illegal settlements and sectarianism. As in, is this part of Biden administration’s approach to isolate and neuter Netanyahu, break up the coalition, and force elections? Given that the US-Israel alliance seems firm despite recent diplomatic spats.

Jumping from sanctioning civilian settlers and political individual, to sanctioning an entire battalion is big. And almost certainly means the US has firm evidence or strong suspicion about abuses and war crimes.

  • The US on the regular flexes their ‘global airlift’ capability by shuffling tanks and armored vehicles around the globe via air freight, moving entire company’s worth of hardware between continents.

Sensible militaries with actual budgetary concerns use sea freight, accepting the delay.

  • I will never get tired of seeing headlines that start with “Gay furry hackers” because if the Venn diagram is that intersectional, it’s schaudenfreude story time with spicy drops! 🍿

  • Not really news that Tesla has a lot of headwinds, even before Elon’s peculiarities and ‘leadership’ is factored:

    • Was disruptive in early 2000s, now suffering from many of the same diseconomies as the auto industry
    • Vertical integration especially introduces huge CapEx that has to justify its continued existence via regular, strong sales. There’s a very good reason the big automakers sub-contract out a significant part of their BoMs for production and JiT stocking
    • Traditional auto makers (and government) are pushing EVs hard, greatly increasing competition especially in entry level markets where Tesla has poor showing
    • High profile recalls, durability issues, and ‘autopilot’ deaths leading to growing concern, both regulatory and consumer

We all know the stock is massively overvalued. The question is will it correct and level off, or fall so fast from that height that Tesla ends up like Lucid, Rivian, or Polestar etc as a low-mid manufacturer, or go so far that the short sellers bring the knives out until delisting

  • Dare I say this is a chicken:egg situation - which is making the other redundant?

  • All the responsibility blood on your hands, and none of the power

    FTFY.

Is the UN head chair a prestigious office inside the diplomatic corps? Obviously there’s cushy postings that are preferred over say, Syria - but is it a prized posting?

  • Traffic lights make roundabouts pointless, unless they’re on a quick cycle used to ‘group’ cars entering a multi-lane roundabout.

If your population didn’t grow up with roundabouts though, and treats them like YOLO free for alls… then you might need lights

  • I used to live nearby! Loved that silly thing, just don’t treat it like one big roundabout - it’s six chained roundabouts that you can use individually; both green and red routes are valid and legal for the same destination:

  • Andrew is an OSINT volunteer who watches and categorizes battlefield losses in Ukraine, and it’s been sickening to see how callously Russia throws away lives:

  • “WE’RE NOT MEANT TO EXIST THIS LONG”

  • Risk toying in the registry to kill it, of course 🏴‍☠️

  • … could you describe it as modest?

  • When you read about the Holocaust and the Nazis, you like to imagine you'd be the good guy. You'd fight the Nazis, you'd free the concentration camps. But apparently I wouldn't. Apparently I would have just sat there paralyzed, incapable of doing anything about the genocide I see every day. Unable to think of any way to help. All I can do is retweet and protest and write a stupid blog post. I feel so stupid.

    1. What this tell us is that the IDF will kill an almost unlimited or undefined number of civilians in order to potentially kill one Hamas member of unspecific rank or commitment

Did we already forget the Jabalia camp strike? The IDF felt comfortable purposefully and deliberately bombing women and children taking refuge, as long as they kill a Hamas mid-level commander with the +195 civilians.
