  • I try to rationalise that the wording itself is not important to me and I can't understand why would it be important to them, why won't they just accept that some days with me are better without any confrontation?

That's not how relationships work. It's important to them. If they are important to you, then you put in the effort. If you can't put in the effort on some days, maybe spend some time apart. The second part of that quote is also pretty problematic. If you are not respectful to them, telling them that they should not confront you about it is really toxic.

I'm autistic and depressed. I make similar mistakes. But I gotta ask myself the question: do I ask of my partner(s) things that I would myself not do? It seems that you are doing that. You're asking them to ignore your behaviour, while you also ask of them to behave correctly towards you.

  • Yeah I'm still sometimes discovering wrong titles, too.

  • I finally made the jump to tidal this month, my subscription to Spotify is running out. I hate giving my money to Spotify. Yeah, tidal ain't perfect, yet. But I hope with more people joining, it's going to be better soon

  • I invested a lot less. Go ahead. Long-term investment usually pay off if you don't need the money

  • So much. I mean that's what the book burning was all about. There's blacklisted authors. There's state secrets. It might be information that's legal only for certain people. I mean, if we're being pedantic, it's illegal for you to have information about me if I'm not giving it to you.

  • Let me give a counter argument: everything that annoys you about therapy can be part of therapy. Everything that happens in therapy can and should be part of it. So why not being up the topic of this post with your therapist? How does that make you feel?

Therapy is not really about the therapist. They're just there to give you a surface to reflect off of.

  • Hm I'd say not necessarily. That depends on your situation I guess. The question comes down to "would you give up your property for other people to live in?" If you own 1-2 small properties, that's not being a greedy landlord. And it would make it possible for you to give people housing they could afford (while still profitable for you, if you needed it to be).

If you charge insane rents, then you're not only a hypocrite but maybe also schizophrenic. That just sounds like a disconnect.

But it's very possible to "change the system from within", even if that's not my political opinion. If you can buy property, maybe you should. And then rent it to people for an affordable price.

I'm sometimes thinking people should get together and buy mansions to convert into shelters

  • Are you taking anything for your ADHD? Because you are describing very clear addiction patterns for dopamine.

  • Yeah, you've trained yourself. I noticed after a while when I was binging stuff, that I hadn't even gotten what it was about. I had listened to hours of podcasts without retaining anything that was in them. You can un-learn those habits. Your brain works like that because you (and the world around you) have trained it that way.

When's the last time you spent a day without a screen? Two days? A week? This is non-judgemental. I also have addiction patterns.

  • What you're looking for is probably a RSS feed reader.

But seriously. Don't do that to your brain. It isn't heaven, also not for ADHD brains. Screens are very dangerous for us ADHD folks. The neverending circle of information will not satisfy your brain. I highly recommend you try to drastically reduce your screen time. You'll find that after even a short time away, the speed of the normal news cycle will be too much for you.

  • How have I only now put together that that means the matches are impregnated as in water resistant or something.

  • Get an accent coach. I guess you're talking about mid-atlantic.

  • Yeah...we are so well connected and socialised. The old ways have really proved themselves...

  • It's also an issue to have this form of generation fight. We as older men, also have an obligation to question the old ways and listen to the young people. Because yes, a lot of it is a problem. And refusing to see the problem doesn't make it not a problem. It just makes you part of it. Doesn't make you evil to consume certain things. But it doesn't help if you're not compassionate with the current views and the emotions of the younger people around you. Most people don't even want to make anyone stop doing something, but they'd be happy to know that you're questioning it.

  • Thanks! There's not that many answers here to my question, just a lot of comments on the thing itself not about the criticism. So thanks for those sources.

  • Interesting. I'm not sure if that really answers my question. That is you saying it's their fault for being lonely, yes? And yes, I agree, we men should definitely educate ourselves and better ourselves wherever possible. But would that mean that there's no systemic issue and it's "just" men being dumb?

  • I feel like that's a easy statement for people to upvote. But I don't really see an answer to the question. What is the course? Change what? And what established progressive policy?

Not trying to antagonise you at all. Just trying to dig deeper

  • Ah that last part makes sense as a criticism. Yes, I guess incels have taken this term to defend their sexism

  • No actually, killing thousands of children is a war against terrorism! Israel never meant to eradicate the Palestine people! (No matter that the Israeli government and army actually said that) Israel is just such a poor little baby in serious danger!
