  • So freaking weird! People like this just want to give off the appearance of being woke and down for the cause without actually supporting liberation movements.

  • In a way she is right that organized crime has become much more brutal towards average citizens in the past three decades but the government was doing their fair share of oppression and murder of Mexicans before Colombian cartels even existed. Whatever you do keep her away from anti-Morena youtubers. Morena may be succdems and have a shit record in regards to indigenous land rights but 90% of anti-Morenistas are right wing freaks that spew the craziest conspiracy theories!

  • That's one I've never heard before! Are you folks diaspora or does your mom directly experience "el crimen"? Does she think Columbia just exports mini Pablo Escobars lol

  • Thank you for your thoughtful reply comrade and sorry for the late reply.

Yes, chicanismo always seemed kind of usian coded to me and even from a young age I never identified with American culture at all. I guess that's why I was a baby anti-imperialist since my teens lol. Oddly enough danza Azteca and the festivities surrounding La virgen de Guadalupe also helped me begin my decolonization journey. I remember sitting in church on a December 12th when I was like 13 and the priest is telling us the story of how "la virgencita appeared to Juan Diego". He then starts talking about how few indigenous converts they were able to get before the apparitions but with the help of this miracle thousands of indigenous people started to come worship Tonatzin. I couldn't believe how they were openly bragging about how they tricked the holdout indigenous peoples into converting!

Another thing that kept me from engaging with chicanismo in any deep or meaningful way was that I can speak Spanish somewhat competently so I was able to engage with Mexican culture more easily instead. You're right when you say that Mexico has a rich culture and I'm very grateful to be a part of it which did help to ease the heartbreak from learning that chicanismo is kind of whack. Like you say there is no need to put ourselves in any one box. I'll have to work on learning more about los pueblos originarios though. I'm learning a few words in Nahuatl from TikTok to start. I also found a really cool artist who sings in Nahuatl among the sea of Ojitos mentirosos videos! They're called Azalea Báalam and more people should check them out.

I have also noticed the average Mexicans are less reactionary than Americans but just ignore the whitexicans ha ha ha

Thank you for taking your time to reply, it really did help me. I'm glad to know that someone else has experienced something similar to me and gotten through it. It makes me feel less isolated in a way. And no need to apologize for your "word slop" I think I have you beat lol

  • Isn't Florida one of the states that require proof of employment to have access to certain social services?

  • Yeah I always got a weird vibe from people heavily invested in chicano culture. Some seemed to have an unfavorable view of newly arrived undocumented migrants and that always rubbed me the wrong way. Thankfully I never really identified or got into chicanismo and always considered myself Mexican which saved me a lot of "heartbreak" when I came across this new info.

  • Oh nice thank you for this! I am currently on a decolonization theory binge so more sources are very welcome.

  • I want to preface this by saying that I welcome any corrections if I use wrong terminology or offensive language. Please feel free to roast me if I say some reactionary shit.

Hello comrades, I'm looking for some info on chicanismo, primarily our indigenous brother's and sister’s view on it, after watching a video featuring Rick Tabenunaka from Decolonized Buffalo Podcast and his views on chicanismo. His primary thesis is that chicanismo is a settler colonialist project intended to erase the indigenous communities that lived and Live in the area that chicanos call Aztlán. Most of his evidence comes from the fact that early Chicano leaders appropriated the concepts of "La Raza" and "mestizaje" from José Vasconcelos’s book "La raza cósmica" or The Cosmic Race. Things get a little weird when you look into who José Vasconcelos was.

Vasconcelos was a Mexican philosopher and a thought leader of the Mexican revolution who went on to become secretary of education in the new government. In his most famous work, "La raza cósmica", he put forward the theory that since the people of Latin America were a mix of all the world's races they were the prime candidates for the creation of a "fifth race". Things get really bad when you read about his newspaper El Timón. El Timón mostly featured pro Nazi articles, news from the German frontlines, and showcased photos of the "heroic actions" of German, Japanese, and Italian troops. So yeah this dude was a Nazi piece of trash.

This is starting to sound like a hit piece on chicanismo which was not my intention but this new info has given me a little "crisis of faith" surrounding my Mexican identity. I guess I'm just looking for something to help me process this and figure out whether it's a legitimate argument and critique of chicanismo. Thank you for your time and I hope you all have a good day!

I couldn't find the original video I saw so I will post some other ones where Rick also speaks about chicanismo. I will also leave my source on Vasconcelos’s Nazi ties.

  • I'll chime in and say that things are noticeably worse then a decade and even five years ago. I notice this on a is itinterpersonal level and by the state of things in the imperial core. People seem to be burnt out and ground down without any real reprieve. Recreation and hobbies are barely keeping people sane while media and the spectacle are seemingly losing their tranquilizing power. Not completely but you can notice the cracks appear and the façade drop here and there. The unsustainability of capitalism is becoming hard to ignore even for tuned out and "not political" people. In simple terms, shits getting hard out there for us all comrade.

Putting your IRL community first is not an offense it's what you should be doing in the first place so don't worry about us comrade. Just don't forget what Mao said and always combat liberalism wherever it appears lol

  • I'm going to reply to both your posts here.

    School stress post:

As a fellow 30 something year-old, I agree that being around and interacting with younger people is a little different and at the risk of sounding like an "OLD" kinda hard. This feeling is definitely exasperated by our neurodiversity and while I can't say that I know what it feels like to be enby, I'm sure that contributes to it as well. After all we live in an incredibly patriarchal society that punishes anyone who does not stay in the box they were assigned. Maybe you’re internalizing that and it perhaps leads you to feel weird and like some kind of "creep with ill intent" as you say.

On your question about making friends and the age gap dilemma, is your main concern with being seen as wanting to date them or more so the assumption of younger people not wanting anything to do with an older person?

    Post reply rejection:

As someone who spends a lot of time in their head and rarely shares my opinion with others IRL, the few times I do post online and receive little to no engagement kind of bums me out. I don't know how to explain it but it kind of makes me think that I really am a big weirdo with unpopular opinions and it takes me right back to high school. I try to forget about it by doing something else but that is definitely not the healthiest way to deal with that whole deal.

Good luck at school and on your journey discovering your true self, comrade

  • Oh wow I didn't know that. I was actually referring to the new Medicaid cuts coming soon!

  • Damn comrade that sounds so exhausting. And to think that the NHS was world renowned at one point lol. Well I guess us Americans will have a new horrific round of medical austerity to put up with soon

    Permanently Deleted

  • Bump. Good luck comrade I'm going through a similar situation

  • I said don't tempt me Sheitan lol. But seriously I'm not religious either but if I was I still would not believe that interpretation of disability and I blame protestants for perpetrating search wretched beliefs. Protestantism really fucked Westerners up!

  • Is anyone else annoyed by religious people, specifically christians, who assume you don’t believe because you resent that "God" put you in a wheelchair or gave you which ever disability you may have? No muthafucker I just don't accept you're inconsistent explanations for what happens to non-believers who never had a chance to "be saved"! I don't want to get all r/atheist on y'all so stop me if I do

  • Yeah mainstream apps are already nightmare fuel for able-bodied people, I ain't messing with that lol. I'm not into kink, just a cis femme attracted guy, but thank you for taking the time to answer me.

  • I was mostly looking for apps designed for disabled people, but I'll also take advice on dating able-bodied folks.

  • I've read anything from 25% to 70% and the worst part is they also go after Medicaid benefits
