  • I find I just end up watching too much media if it's too accessible like that. With discs + computer + projector, it's easier for me to have dedicated media time without it bleeding into other things I should be doing.

  • I download to my HDD and anything truly worth of keeping gets burned to a BD-R disc for long term cold storage. HDD is more likely to fail in 10+ years than a BD-R.

  • And how many peoples' friends and family are on Signal vs WhatsApp? The whole point of these apps is socializing with people you know, so can you not see how useless of a suggestion it is to recommend Signal? And please don't get into the "just convince everyone to use Signal' argument because it's completely unrealistic.

    Signal did itself no favors when it made the bone-headed move of removing SMS support in a delusional attempt at pushing users away from SMS and towards Signal's encrypted chat. All it did was result in a bunch of people uninstalling the app because it became annoying to use it just for Signal instead of Signal and SMS, which at least gave rise to a SMS user's eventual shift away from SMS. But we don't talk about that because open source is always good 😇

    It's like saying modern clubs suck, so I'm going to invest my own club that the vast majority of people won't attend and those that do are almost all white dudes with the same generic "I'm not like other users" personality.

  • I just use my PC for movies + a projector that's plugged in, so I like keeping it really simple and avoiding stuff like Plex.

  • Seems like an insane reach to say if this baby didn't die from that incident, they'd die from another neglect related issue.

    Personally, I have a hard time judging parents in this position and I can't say I'm a fan of them being charged. All the system cares about is the illusion of justice served in the form of traumatic retribution via prison.

  • I think it'd be cool if new/not famous actors were given big roles like this. It's a joke that RDJ got this role and Hollywood has the same issue as Washington-- bunch of old people who can't wrap their heads around going with new talent instead of the same tired old actors.

    When a movie markets itself around the fame of the main actor(s), I can't help but think it's gonna be more hype the substance. But when a movie has some very lesser known characters but knocks it outta the park, I like that a lot more. Prey is a good example of this.

    MCU movies and all that stuff are just a cheap ass cash grab and decisions are made based on profit viability more than anything. Just so painfully formulaic.

  • I like On Taking Pictures a lot. Nice podcast that really sparked my interest in photography about 10 years ago.

    I try to stay away from political podcasts these days because I'm just too burnt out.

  • Why is it that libertarianism seems to have a long history of primarily attracting white men? As a POC, libertarianism strikes me as one of the most ideologically selfish political philosophies that is the furthest thing to being conducive to solidarity. I damn sure don't trust libertarians and I've seen TONS of racism in libertarian spaces/clubs online and in-person.

    There's plenty of bastard racist, sexist and transphobic libertarians out there and it's dismissive/inaccurate to chalk them all up as QAnon types.
