  • You're out of line. You ignored entirely what I was asking for by using universal Healthcare as an example. This is exactly what my issue is. The left are resting on it's own laurels while failing horribly. This generation of leftist are the most ineffective in it's history. GDPR is a good example but it has no bearing here when you compare to things like

    • Trumps double victory reshaping conservative politics globally

    • Conservative capture of the Supreme Court of the United States.
    • Overturning Roe v. Wade
    • Long-term judicial appointments in the US locking in conservative influence for decades
    • Brexit
    • Normalization of nationalist politics in all countries.

    • Sustained rule by right-wing governments in Hungary under Viktor Orbán

    • Election of Giorgia Meloni in Italy and mainstreaming of post-fascist right politics

    • Modi

    • Influence of Jair Bolsonaro

    • Immigration framed globally as a security and cultural where the left has lost the cultural view in the general public as it being good or humanitarian.

    • Normalization of border enforcement and deportation rhetoric across Europe and North America
    • Everything with ICE. From it's budget to expansion of its power. This will likely be replicated globally.

    • Globally reframing anything left as “wokeness”

    • Gender identity, trans issues, and school curriculum to the point that teachers are burnt out if they even dare put up a rainbow.

    • Successful positioning of parental rights as a core political issue
    • Push towards privatization of education while gutting public education.

    • Expansion and dominance of right-leaning alternative media, podcasts, and YouTube political commentary Post-2022 realignment of Twitter favoring right-leaning narratives and influencers.
    • Wealthy right wing or libertarian leaders buying up all media or suing media into submission.

    • Higher engagement and reach of right-wing messaging among young men

    • Expanding “country first” rhetoric and other nationalistic views

    • Skepticism of global institutions (UN, WHO, EU) becoming mainstream positions

    • Globalization blamed for everything
    • Gutting climate policy

    • Taxation reframed as punishment rather than public investment

    • Regulation framed as elitist overreach or flat or fraud

    • Cohesive right-wing coalitions prioritizing power over ideological purity
    • bombing fishing boats in Venezuela
    • Isreal

So no GDPR is not it.

  • Is your social Healthcare argument something that was implement by the left within the last decade. If it hasn't then why is it relevant to this discussion?

I have not ignored that part. I addressed it with my point about self awareness. Blaming Russian propaganda is an excuse to avoid having to be critical of yourself. It gives you a defense just like the right does when they blame Biden or Obama. It's a diversion to not address the problems at hand.

  • Why not just use chatgpt instead

  • What has the Left actually accomplished anywhere in the last ten years? Not just the U.S. anywhere. Rejecting cookies isn’t an achievement. Globally, the Right has regained power and is effectively spreading its ideas.

The Left, including its voters, are disengaged and uninformed. And the excuses are endless: morality, propaganda, oligarchy, anything but self-awareness. The reality is simple, the average Leftist is being outclassed by the average person on the Right.

Results are what matter, and the results are bad. The Right dominates media and public narratives worldwide. The was a Left owned thing for the longest time. We were the internet ffs. Nowadays the left often doesn’t even understand what’s happening.

This isn’t Russian propaganda. It’s the Left’s own behavior, retreating from conflict, abandoning platforms, and calling it virtue. That vacuum gets filled. The Left did this to itself, and while it fights a bullshit war with a glorified spellchecker, the Right keeps gaining power.

  • This is definitely coming if it isn't already here.

  • What has the left done that you would say it's effective politically or culturally on the last ten years

  • I'm Canadian. We get American politics infecting our country all the time. I agree inequality is rampant. Which pisses me off even more how ineffective the left are at capturing any of the population. It's dead in the water.

  • Is it really changing?

Anecdotaly I see more right leaning people of all ages. People on the left are in hiding.

  • Not really. There's many areas that women do have it better. Sociologist have started to label it even. They're called the lost boys. A generation of boys who for one reason or another have failed to move onto post secondary education. Education in our society is something that increases our chances of success in life. But right now post education is filled with women. They believe the push to get women in schools was successful but nobody put the same effort into the boys. STEM careers and other post secondary streams were advertised to women and the boys were forgotten. Can't tell me that those boys are not now feeling that pressure with having reduced social and capital mobility as a whole. It's just one example of how women do not have it "much worse" today then men.

  • It's two different arguments. Individually there are many people who see women having it better then themselves and of course they will be upset when society is saying they don't. Empathy here is understanding both sides have some valid points. Men do have a lot of problems in society. An entire generation left behind because many social programs focused only on boosting women while forgetting men. Telling those men to suck it up or that they're wrong isn't the answer. It's only going to radicalize sides. Both sides should be addressed.

  • Left leaning spaces have become really good at pairing "don't work too hard" meme's with "I can't pay rent or eat" memes and also "why can't we get anything done" memes. They all go together.

People say that as we age that most people gravitate towards the right. I think it's that as we age we slowly realize how full of shit the left are and how they really are just lazy people full of ideas they can't bother to fight for themselves. That "grindset" or whatever the fuck you call it mentality is at the core of the right wing. And it shows in that they tend to hold power even when they don't. The average right winger will drive across states just to go shit on some insignificant thing because they all feel they can change things in their life with effort. The left can't bother to do much beyond tell others to disengage and not work too hard.

  • They're obsessed. When there's manufactured outrage it'll start out as sensible but quickly evolves into the radicals that spew what you see up top. Ai and chat bots have issues but the push to convince the public to hate it was heavy on lemmy. So now there's these radicals that are living in their own toxic fantasy.

  • I for sure believe they do. The number of applications that launched with genuinely useful features, only to have them rolled back because of public backlash or shoved behind a paywall, has always pissed me off. Take Bing image search. When it first showed up, you could actually use it for OPSEC and for tracing the origin of suspect memes. If something felt astroturfed or a user seemed like a bot, I could verify it with Bing search. Now I can’t even use it to search a logo because they gutted it. There’s no way I believe that search capability doesn’t still exist behind closed doors, in the hands of political firms, law offices, or government agencies.

  • I fully believe the issue is that regular people stopped voting and engaging. Everybody became passive except for people trying to push an agenda. If people stayed engaged and continued to vote, they would have drowned them out.

  • Lemmy is all AI propaganda

  • Get rid of mods too. The whole fucking point was to have the community moderate with voting. Somehow it all turned into mods running things and it all went to shit
