  • As others have pointed out, if you're going to piss off the police, at least get in power first. His commitment isn't indefinite, either, and firing her after an inevitable police screw-up could better minimize reaction.

  • I'm pretty much the opposite. Until he actually gets into office, we're just talking about takes.

  • Focusing on "this has never happened before" might be a good way to avoid getting bogged down in the merits of the current government (a far broader topic), whatever plan is being proposed, etc.

  • Really backdooring that one into this, aren't they?

  • Yeah, libs will occasionally take good stances when they're out of power. Now they will be principled anti-interventionists and say they care about international law, the War Powers Act, etc. It can be useful from time to time. Then when they get in power it's "we tortured some folks" this and leaving Guantanamo open that.

  • Is the enemy the couple who lives in a pretty big house, or is it the capitalists who own the Chicago Assembly Plant?

If it's the couple, is it because they own a pretty big house, or is it because they're both founder/CEOs who own big stakes in companies?

  • Specifically naming "utensils" feels like they foresaw the

    and toothbrush discourse

  • If you're detached enough from real consequence and your team is doing well, those types of emotions can be enjoyable on some level. I see it as similar to a sports fan who always thinks the sky is falling for their team but religiously follows it anyway.

  • A lot of sci-fi falls into the trap of being so enamored with the (often cool) setting that it forgets to be a good story.

  • That particular part doesn't strike me as weasel wording. There's a world of difference between:

    • Committing to police stopping ICE raids, which would involve ordering the police to directly confront ICE agents; and
    • Committing to police not helping, which does not involve direct confrontation.
  • hooting a toot
