  • I suppose in a roundabout way I’m saying what others have said before in different words. That it’s worth far more energy to recruit from the most oppressed than from people who are oppressed in one way or another but also play a closer part in making the capitalist system function. Their technical knowledge and experience could have great value, depending, but that doesn’t mean they need to be leading the vanguard.

    And here, we are in agreement. I know mistakes will be inevitable, we're human. But there is virtue, I think, in seeking to minimize them, without sabotaging ourselves.

  • So yeah, I never want it to be a thing where I’m ivory tower moralizing about others not being “strong enough morally” or something. But at the same time, a person who designs a system to take advantage of others is still a person who contributes directly to hurting others. A person who pulls a lever on a system designed to take advantage of others is still a person who contributes directly to hurting others. Hoping they’ll organically choose not to do it won’t change the system, but at the same time, I don’t want to assume the best of intentions from them when they may have gone into it with full enthusiasm and willingness.

    I understand, and am in agreement. I was pondering this the other night, and thought of the saying, "Kill them, G-d knows his own." And it's the same quagmire, isn't it? How would we set up safeguards, in the event of revolution and rebuilding, that would spare as many innocents as possible, without also risking our undoing, by trusting and integrating too many non-innocents? What is too many? Can we improve on past mistakes? How would we know, except for a rather swift undoing, I imagine. And perhaps it's even absurd to ponder these things, because we already know who isn't pondering them.

  • This reminds me of a short conversation I had once on my fellow exploited people's side-hustle activities of dealing in illicit products -- use your imagination, I imagine it's worse than I know, even now -- and a young brother said to me: Hate the game, not the player," to which I replied, "If not for the player, there'd be no game."

    Hunger and cold pangs are strong, though. I just ran across an article about a local missing person who has been found, whom I probably judged a bit too harshly, after reading, which was scant enough on detail, as it was. It just goes to show we really don't know the extent of personal challenges people may hide, whether from guilt, or not wanting to expose yet another weakness to be exploited.

  • I would imagine every monument at the capitol toppled/symbolically hung/decapitated. I doubt many politicians wouldn't escape to somewhere else to plot their next world domination, but I imagine many pages, secretaries, and clerks would be executed and the bodies desecrated. Epstein type stuff, before, during, and after, maybe. I imagine the same for casualties among the fighters, regardless of allegiances or imagined desired outcomes. I imagine a much smaller population, and hope no ignorant or hothead gets the launch codes. I imagine a much smaller population, and regardless of identity or idealism, people will work together or perish, and many who would work together will be left to perish, and many who will embed and try to sabotage. Maybe after a generation, some collective farms will begin to thrive, fed by blood and body rot, although with the climate catastrophe, I can't imagine what food will be produced. I imagine much shorter lifespan, with even more poison water, air, soil. I will hope people have a much longer memory and a passion for keeping the people's gains that runs deep, hot, and strong in the veins of a hundred generations, hotter and stronger than any resentments that may linger.

  • I was looking at some informal polling results locally, very underserved area, it was really disheartening seeing opinions on public vs private schooling, and the framing included-reasons keeping people from private education included expense, but funding was never mentioned for any public school related questions.

    I'm very lucky to be able to get my hands on a few healing roots, stems, and leaves. My neighbor's sibling was able to acquire a needed medicine that was on private property, for me, as well as other more freely available medicinal plants, and even brewed it up into a tea so all I had to do is heat it up and drink it. If I lived in town, I would still be wrecked. But with your health conditions, so much would probably be contraindicated.

  • Sounds like he was bullied and what should've been his safe space betrayed him. To garner support and protection from those who should be protective, he's doing this as an instinctive defense mechanism, perhaps. I'm not sure what you can reasonably do, other than support and love your brother unconditionally (hanging out may have conditions to keep both of you safe).
