  • I can only speak for myself, but abandoning x86 isn't something that I could have done if I hadn't first cleaned my hands of my old gaming habit.

On the technical end, if you're already using some Linux distro, you're already half way there. Just use the installation media for ppce64el or riscv64 instead of the usual amd64.

  • Relying on IA as the sole internet library was bound to create problems.

There need to be other entities doing this work independently of one another. Like municipal libraries.

  • Google and Meta and such don’t even need you to have an account to build accurate profiles and track you everywhere

This is true if one does nothing. It takes a lot of work but it is indeed possible to starve them of your data.

  • Jump ship from x86 to something that isn't hostile to users.

    RISC-VOpenPOWER

  • ffmpeg

  • Honestly I should have a bit of respect for zeds and alphas who grow up around locked black boxes and still despite that manage to come out the other side knowing how to use something like terminal or git.

  • Even no tech seems to be better than consumption focused devices.

It is far preferable to teach old relatives, who have never touched a computer, how to do basic things than it is to try to introduce a better or faster or freer way to those who have already been exposed to the officially ordained Microsoft or Apple way of doing things that should be simple.

  • And you haven't turned to piracy yet?

  • The year is 2030, and you are on your way to meet a friend for a meal.

    I don't eat out

You receive a message notification on WhatsApp

I don't use any of DARPA Lifelog Facebook Meta disservices.

which was sent by your friend using her Signal messaging app

I don't have friends. And DEFINITELY not girls. (I use Arch btw)

You choose an app because you like the way it looks

I think I just vomited a little bit in my mouth

You look at reviews produced by people you follow

I don't "follow" people and never will.

  • Literally everyone that "threatens" to "switch to linux":

  • Hey look, an article documenting 2020!

  • I'll assume that Loongson are equally as backdoored, but by Chinese intelligence rather than US intelligence.

RISC-V and OpenPOWER are the last remaining non-user-hostile ISAs. That and possibly old x86.

  • Social inertia and an extra helping of users hate having to learn things.

  • The CSAC also accused Intel of embedding a backdoor “in almost all” of its CPUs since 2008

Hmmm They couldn't be referring to the extensively researched, reverse-engineered, and years-documented Intel Management Engine, could they?

CSAC is only just now coming across this information? Better late than never, I guess.

Edit: Having now finished the article, yes they are.

  • YaCy self-hostable search engine kind of has this feature and architecture by way of a DHT inter-peer search, in combination with local page caching. Although the caching feature is something that a node operator needs to manually enable.

  • During the covAIDs hysteria, Canadian citizens where forced to present a digital passport to re-enter their own country.

Vaccinated senior ordered to quarantine for not using ArriveCAN suing federal government

In addition to finding ArriveCAN to be unconstitutional, Walsh believes the app unfairly targeted seniors, amid many of them not having smartphones.

I'm no senior, and I'm no Canadian, but I most certainly would have been refused entry just because i don't own a "smart" phone.

It is going to take an ever increasing amount of perseverance and individual intelligence in order to live life in Kaczynski's nightmare world while rejecting such treacherous devices.
