  • I take it you have 0 knowledge of the Six Day or Yom Kippur wars? Which is how the borders in the headlines moved. I mean, heck, a lot of recent maps of Israel show in which war the territory was taken.

I kinda guessed folks were ignorant of the history but come on, this is pretty basic stuff.

  • What on Earth?

When do you think the Six Day or Yom Kippur wars happened?

  • Edit: Well, as horrifying as it is to see how shallow folks understanding of history is, no one is paying me to be online and screaming against tiktok or whatever isn't that much fun. G'night y'all!

Unpopular opinion but do folks honestly not understand how those borders shifted? Mostly because a bunch of countries tried to murder the Jews and yeah, Israel took part of their land in the counter offensives.

If Ukraine kept Kursk, I can't imagine we'd really be complaining?

Basically, if you launch a surprise war I think you forfeit the right to be surprised or angry when your land gets taken.

Edit: Jesus, are the downvoters confused like the response below and think this is talking about Oct 7 as opposed to say, the repeated wars that actually changed the borders? Does TikTok not cover modern history or what?

  • Exactly. When I take a morning off to ski before work and the snow isn't ideal, I'll remember I don't have to be grateful.

  • Probably the coolest looking group of non ninja/mutant/teenage animals I've ever seen.

  • A lot of folks are overlooking one of the largest factors, unlimited student loans for whatever.

As long as people have access to an ever increasing amount of money to use for tuition, it is in those institutions' interests to rise their prices to extract as much as possible.

Whereas other countries tend to subsidize their education at source, that is to say, by funding the schools directly which somehwat obviates the price gouging aspect.

  • According to that, there is no better defender of women's rights than Donald trump, as he himself has declared.

Inadvertently or not, you've parroted a lot of Right Wing talking points. They usually insist thinking of race is itself racist, white people are actually the most discriminated and so on. From the Left, the refusal to see/think of race etc is a convenient way to ignore structural racism etc.

The first part of your last post comes across as a tone deaf right winger trying to say we should stop talking about race. And once people have read that first paragraph, they are unlikely to read much in depth of the next few.

  • Exactly. I don't think the person above remembers the movie particularly well. They were actively trying to kill him until Maya Rudolph saved the day and showed everyone the smartest man in the world was right.

  • If this suit somehow won, Rassmussen would be out of business the next day as dozens if not hundreds of members of Congress filed similar lawsuits.

  • Exactly, the key bit being "Ms Carroll failed to prove that she was 'raped' within the meaning of the New York Penal Law'

In other words, even though he wasn't found liable for rape, she was raped as the word is commonly understood. Unfortunately, Stephanopolous made the claim (repeatedly I believe) that trump had been found liable for rape.

  • Ohhhhhh, British Columbian and ex professional here on this one.

Personal "bulk" sales are usually some in 1/8ths (3.5 grams) or more but in stores, the first page of their lil booklet is usually half or full gram pre rolled joints.

Admittedly, for what it's worth, first time I saw this meme in the wild was at a pot shop while buying a pre rolled gram.

  • But also notes that he was found liable for something different. The judge makes clear that in colloquial terms, yeah, it's rape. But legally, there is a difference. And Stephanopolous said he'd been found liable for rape, which is a very specific charge and a claim which is demonstrably false, even if we all understand his actions to be rape.

Law is fucked but in the confines of the law, trump's legal team has a point and, it seems, the law on their side.

  • when it’s literally the truth and public record lol

It ain't and that's the crux of the lawsuit. Stephanopolous said trump had been liable for rape when in reality he'd been found liable for sexual assault. Rape is a different charge.

It's a subtle difference but it is one a veteran journalist would be expected to know, which is why the bar of him acting "with a reckless disregard for the truth" wouldn't be unthinkable.

Morally, yeah, I'm with you. But legally, ABC was on dicey ground. Maybe could win but damn, that'd be a battle. Stephanopolous would have to, in court, claim he didn't understand the difference between the charges which isn't a great look for an anchor.

  • The standards for a news reporter are probably a lot higher than for a normal citizen. Colloquial definition almost certainly doesn't cut it.

Especially as Stephanopolous somewhat goofed and repeatedly asserted trump had been found** liable of a crime** which was different from the crimes which he was actually guilty. (Ironically, I almost wonder if he'd been better off saying he raped Carroll as then you could more easily invoke the colloquial meaning defence whereas saying trump was found liable for rape changes the meaning subtly but meaningfully.)

As a news reporter, he should have known that from a legal perspective trump had not been "found liable for rape." It's splitting hairs but that's a lot of law. I would not want to argue it wasn't reckless and injurious to trump's "reputation".

  • Jesus fuck there is some ghoulish shit in there! Just withhold water as someone dies slow so as to "do no harm" ? Ugh.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Canadian here and I agree, I wouldn't wish our neighbours on anyone else. But, it's our cross to bear.

Cannot wait to hear about the Foz News reaction to this.

One of the parts that breaks my heart is that if assisted suicide is so popular now that it's legal, how many people suffered for how long when it wasn't?
