  • Short-form video is destroying attention spans and critical thinking skills. The level of brainrot I see in people who are hooked on Tiktok or other platforms is staggering. "I saw 500 10-second videos about this topic and now believe it with every ounce of my being, because the algorithm specifically pushes this particular point of view." seems to be a common occurrence these days.

  • Keep trying. For science.

  • Personally I find pirated games to be a bit of a pain to install on the Deck. I'd go with Windows for that use case.

  • For the immediate symptoms, moving your body changes your mood. Take a 30 minute walk twice a day around sunrise and sunset to avoid the heat. If you have a dog, bring them along! Or just turn on some good music and dance it out until you're out of breath. The point is, find a way to move without it feeling like the chore of a workout.

Also drink water. Lots of water.

To tackle the larger issue, figure out what your ideal life looks like day-to-day. Do you want to travel or be a homebody? Interact with many different people, or a close-knit team, or no one at all? Move your body a lot or sit at your desk? Own a penthouse or would renting your own apartment suffice?

Once you know what your goals are, it will be easy to find a career that fits all the pieces. Then simply work backwards to determine what steps you need to take to get there. For example, maybe you want to be a homebody who works mostly alone and sits at a desk and owns a penthouse. You can then research what remote jobs pay a high salary and find the qualifications needed to land those jobs. Maybe it's a certain college degree and 10 years of experience in certain job titles. Congrats, you now have a road map to follow. Go do it.

  • Not gonna lie, I had no idea until this post that "mansplaining" was strictly considered male behavior. I've had women do the same thing when I'm in spaces or situations that are traditionally female dominated, and figured that "mansplaining" was the appropriate descriptor for that. TIL.

  • Who tf is still using on-prem SharePoint? You'd think all orgs would have migrated to Sharepoint Online by now.

  • I absolutely loved the first season! It was so wholesome and cute, and the animation is gorgeous.

  • I misread this as "Jennifer Lopez" and was deeply impressed that a celebrity singer/actress had such incredible cooking skills.

  • I been there. The StopDrinking community is here when you're ready!

  • It feels somewhat similar to how lesbians aren't seen as "threatening" as gay men. If it's doesn't "threaten" fragile cis straight men then it's not in the front of the discussion.

  • Hear me out: Not drinking at all and smoking weed instead

  • I like to burn movies and shows to play on my CRT. It feels a bit more authentic than streaming.

  • Right on! I've had a similar gaming experience, except with VR. Can't seem to get my headset working with Bazzite. I've heard that there's some workarounds but I need to sit down and poke at it.

  • I hadn't seen a single ad until a few months ago. I had snagged a copy of Windows 10 Pro (and Windows 7 Pro before that) from my workplace so I imagine it was debloated to an extent.

  • I'm doing my part! Switched to Linux earlier this year because Microsoft started showing ads in the start menu. I tried Nobara but ran into some glitches that I didn't want to troubleshoot so I switched to Bazzite. So far so good.

  • That must be difficult. Do you think you'll eventually change your last name when you do your legal name change?

  • Isn't it troublesome on paperwork to have differing last names in the same family? I even found an article saying that most Eastern European families use a singular last name when they come to the US, because differing last names really isn't compatible with the US legal system.

  • Ah I see. OP did specify that they're in the US so hopefully this is not a problem for them.

  • Oh, that's really interesting and informative! Thanks for explaining it.
