  • woah wow its like they dont even realize theyre doing it wow

  • Discovery probably "got it the worst" because it came out during peak gamergate-era politics. Online fandoms were weaponized and radicalized into right-wing culture warriors. Discovery is easily the least preachy of any Star Trek series but because it had a black woman in a leading role it became an obvious target for ragebaiters to make stuff up about.

  • Jimmmy Kirk lounged around when there was a crisis so I don't know what these people are upset about

  • On the contrary it is a big deal, it makes Ake extremely endearing and likeable.

  • oh hey its the guy from the article

  • Amazing

  • Thorough analysis, sad it had to be done.

  • If you're someone who already believes that New York City is a violent hell hole and ICE is cleaning it up, then videos like this that get mindlessly scrolled past can reinforce that belief and are unlikely to be critically analyzed.

  • "Sotreé Seet" is a real place in New York I am pretty sure

Also not surprised that all but one of the belligerent NYPD are non white...

  • 😂 Honestly I start to feel bad for someone like this. The entire point of these LLMs is basically allowing someone to live inside of a pretend reality where they can't be hurt... and this guy can't even manage that.

  • It's not, but you bring up a very good point about responsibility. We need to be using language like that and not feeding into the hype.

I don't even like calling LLMs "AI" because it gives a false impression of their capabilities.

  • I think there is value in the concept of a government-operated "social media" website that's open for public comment on laws, policies, etc, and requires proof of occupancy in order to participate.

But government "identity verification" to participate on the internet at large is tyranny.

  • Getting a "429 Too Many Requests" error.

But if true- this is depressing. I've always viewed Ars as a sort of standard bearer when it comes to tech news. Other outlets like The Verge do a lot of "best [product]" articles with affiliate links, and while I understand why, and don't think they're being dishonest, it just feels cheap. Seeing Ars fail at basic fact-checking is truly depressing.

  • One of these days I'll set one of those redirect extensions...

  • It plays fine for me without being logged in (desktop not mobile), but I did have to click "x" on the login popup. Can't browse the profile or anything else, though. But yes, Imginn is great. Highly recommended.

  • I'm going to pretend this never happened.

In an alternate universe somewhere, they created a real comic we could all purchase immediately and this episode was the surprise reveal.

  • Though I wish we would have saw her, Discovery name drop!

Even if we don't see any of the cast, it would be SO badass to see Disco pop in and save the day during a space battle for a moment then just pop back out.
