  • I get where you're coming from but I still disagree with your position. An internet conversation is not the same as a meeting in real life. I like most people here because I don't have to see them or have to be around them.

    I see it as a way to exchange information and opinions and as a way to escape from reality. Sometimes that goes off the rails and devolves into shitposting. Social media is a misnomer, it should be parasocial media.

    OTOH, I don't have a twitter account (nor Insta, nor FB, nor TikTok, nor whatever-new-hip-platform), so maybe I'm just fucking antisocial and wished I weren't.

  • The workers at my local gas station go outside of the shop to smoke. I once asked them if that wasn't dangerous and they said they have a ventilation system that pushes the vapors out the other way and that it's fine to smoke here (it's still disallowed as per house rules but they don't really care)

  • In the bumfuck town I live in, they are barring the streets in the old town every weekend because it increases foot traffic and local stores were dying off. It's still pretty run down and in bad shape, but better than before.

  • Reminds me of that old TV trope of saying "over and out". This is not how you end a radio transmission. "Over" means that you are finished talking and are now awaiting a reply, "out" means that you finished talking and are going to stop listening for a reply. Saying both together is contradictory, you only say "out" when you're done.
