  • Likely a subwoofer. They do better in corners.

  • Hasn’t she been?

  • Simplicity. If you can compile the same code into two different platforms, you have less to deal with in the future. Else you’re going to run into bugs in one set of code but not the other.

You’re still going to run into platform specific bugs, though.

  • Could you not just preemptively have a plan in place to cover it up? Like “okay if we are going to sell we just drop in a floor on top and pretend it wasn’t there”?

  • When someone releases a “crack” of software that doesn’t need a crack, it’s normally just injected with malware to catch the script kiddies.

  • I’d say they offer prosumer options for sure, but they also have what I would consider enterprise offerings as well. Even a large campus can easily be run off their enterprise gear.

  • Or just glue a new keycap in place

  • In programming a semaphore is a way to handle access to a method in a multithreaded environment.

  • I’m confused on how a semaphore would help, or is this a joke that I am misinterpreting?

  • I hate to tell you but a VPS is just a VM in the cloud. Unless you’re paying for bare metal, at which point you are paying an arm and a leg.

  • … I am confuse.

  • Personally, if my head is on fire so is the rest of my body. Maybe just avoid throwing them short?

  • They were explicitly ordered not to.

  • Holograms are programs that run on a computer. They have no physical form, they are force fields and light being projected from a piece of hardware bolted to the wall to convince you they have form, but their true "self" is just data in a computer like any other program. Their experiences are database entries. They can be deleted, copied, transmitted, paused and restarted like any other program. They are incapable of doing anything that the computer they're running on can't do.

Isn’t this true of humans in the world as well?

They run on a meat computer, and are limited in their capabilities to what that meat computer and meat suit can do.

Humans can be paused, deleted, and restarted. The many different transporter fuck ups kinda prove that. The only thing stopping it from being a norm is safeties, which have been circumvented before and will be again.

Human memories are also manipulatable. They’ve proven to be deletable, injectable, editable.

It really feels like your argument is “they are digital so can’t be alive.” Which seems very anti Trek.

  • Just another “worst of the worst” over here.

  • Nah it just means you rambled to the point that I didn’t want to bother reading a wall of text. Instead of stating a clear point you wrote a novel that spanned the galaxy with how varied it was.

  • All that text, and you didn’t stop to think about how they would charge someone without being able to confirm 100% who it was that fired the shot?

  • Er, source? Last I knew the state was being actively prevented from investigating. And charging someone without having done any investigation is a great way to get them double jeopardy instead of held accountable.
