  • If you want to make a bee from scratch, you must first invent the universe

  • Very cute

  • Same. Also went through the entire list of apps and laboriously turned off all the toggles in the app’s “Siri and Search” settings. Even though siri is off systemwide, these are still on. I don’t want app suggestions from my OS, apple. Jfc.

  • Cool Ranch Doritos

  • In our guest house, whenever the laundry machine ran, half the lights would go out. It was due to the drain hose having a small leak. The water seeped down and shorted an outlet in the crawl space. So I had to:

    • fix the drain hose
    • replace the main water disconnect valve that randomly wore out and got stuck in the off position (learn about pex, buy and use a crimper tool)
    • replace some rotten wood
    • replace shorted outlet with GCFI
    • replace crawl space skirting I broke when investigating

Ah, good times. But now it’s all fixed. For now.

  • Even if “relocation” means shuffling off this mortal coil

  • It was said with the confidence of a statement having clear meaning and well articulated reason, but of course it had neither of these things

  • Maybe he meant end of cooperation because in times past, we would have unified against this threat and kept it at bay, but now we’re all fucked and everything is on fire so nobody has time to deal with the situation?

  • I “cut the cord” years ago and haven’t looked back, so I’m asking my parents to make notes about which advertisements they see on our local ABC affiliate. You can find yours here:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ABC_television_affiliates_(by_U.S._state)

The plan is to not only boycott those products, but also to call or email those companies and tell them I’m boycotting their products and why.

  • Just cut out the middleman and order the Mountain Dew Code Red for me already

  • I bet they’ve updated this since I worked there a million years ago, but it used to be that Barnes & Noble employees got 50% off cafe items with their employee code, which, get this, was:

    • your social security number (lol)
    • valid at any cafe in any B&N in USA
    • not checked against any kind of database, so any number like 111111111 would work

I used this to get half off cafe for years at random B&N’s after I’d been fired, but eventually I started feeling bad for them and any bookstore just trying to survive.

Also a bonus nugget of info: the discounted books by the checkout stand were the biggest money makers for the store. They buy that crap for pennies and even at 20-50% off, were insanely profitable.

  • I’ve only known a few mormons and they always had cake

  • This is gonna be like when we went to war with Iraq because of 9/11, isn’t it

  • If you use reader mode, many articles get chopped down to the first paragraph. Maybe the rest is obfuscated by JavaScript?

  • Stuff I run:

    • HomeAssistant (home automation)
    • frigate (local foss security cam mgmt)
    • metube (web gui for yt-dlp)
    • technitium (dns mgmt with adblocking and many other features that make it better than pihole imo)
    • pdfDing (foss for pdf library mgmt)
    • netbird (in lieu of ddns, I use this self hosted vpn to connect to stuff when I’m not local)
    • caddy (maybe similar to ngnx, this lets me use custom names so I don’t have to remember ip/ports to connect)
    • heimdall (simple static dashboard)

  • You might be interested in a video game called The Last Sovereign. I discovered it during the recent fiasco around payment processors trying to block lewd stuff, but the nsfw visuals can be turned off if you’re not into that. It’s a very serviceable RPG with turn based combat that is well balanced and engaging. But I’m recommending it because you said philosophy and it’s basically a series of Platonic dialogues between characters discussing life, the nature of man, morality, ethics, sexuality, power, and much more. I’m pleasantly surprised at how often I find myself deeply invested in the conversations. I think the writer(s) must’ve needed an outlet for their philosophical musings and chose this quirky “lewd” RPG as the medium.
