  • According to everything I read his father was listed as a prominent man in business, but the script doesn't go further than that. Yes, the script says the mother was a fashion designer, but doesn't say for what company, or anything more specific than that.

  • I couldn't possibly tell you where it started, or every factor, but in the 90s there was a BIG push, in the msm, to have "both sides" opinions on everything. This was pushed by everyone, but championed by Fox. This is when I started to see people with brain dead takes, being taken as seriously, on msm, as people who have been working/studying the topic for decades. I always associated the start of this bullshit with this movement. This is where I first really started to see the "my ignorant opinion is as legitimate as your professional expertise" garbage being mainstreamed.

  • however, just like the severity of punishment, after a point the more police you have see diminishing returns, and in serious over policing cases you start to get more crime because they start looking for reasons to hand out fines and smaller charges to justify/fund their job. However, prosperity reduces the amount of crime more than anything, in a given population.

  • depends on what you mean by holidays I guess. If a holiday is something like hanging out with some friends/family for a few night of hobbies and food/drink, or a bbq, or like going camping at a campground in your region, then five holidays is perfectly ok to me. If holidays means summering at a chateau in the riviera, then, yeah, that's a pretty good line.

  • the last paragraph is were capitalism fails, and where socialism works. 3 billion jobs can support 15 billion people, but that would mean giving the fruits of that labor to those people who have no jobs. This is distributing the product of the labor force to everyone, so everyone can live, that is socialism. If you say ok, let's just have 3 billion people, one per job, then you aren't producing for 15 billion, and now the job pool will shrink accordingly.

    So, if/when machines come to a point where one, basic, job creates enough GDP to support a massive amount of people, then you need the populace to own the means of that production.

  • This is why they want to fill the tech sector with h1b migrants. If they lose their job, they have a narrow window to find another corporate sponsor, or they get deported. This makes even the well paying, white collar, market exploitable in the same way we exploit migrant labor for farms.
