  • You don't have to actively engage with your neighbors, or just do so sparingly. You are in control of your life and (generally) what happens with it.

    It does sound like a lot of people you associate with just hang out with you to make themselves feel better by being 'above' you in their eyes. I would try to cut these people out of your life and try to find other like-minded people who may understand you and your situation better.

    This is exactly what I thought of Russia after their failed invasion of Ukraine. Generally regarded as a super power prior, they put on display how atrophied their millitary had become by not being able to steam roll Ukraine.

  • I think in the statement I was responding to, you could infer the chance being a percentage change, in which case my suggestion/correction would be valid. 1 could be valid if you covert percentage to decimal notation, but that just seems weird and unnatural.

  • To be fair, over time, Ukraine has received a ton of funding and supplies to help it's defense. However that doesn't explain how Russia wasn't able to just roll over Ukraine in a few months, had they actually planned and maintained their millitary.

  • This implies that local availability of competitive products exists, which for the vast majority of things in the US is not the case. So many of our goods are made overseas and imported.

    Tariffs are going to raise consumer expenses till one of two things happens: Local production ramps up and provides local goods (at likely a similar or higher price because our wages are higher than overseas) or a political change occurs that results in the removal of the tariffs. Either way US consumers are going to feel the increased cost of goods for the foreseeable future...
