  • Malicious compliance can mean finding ways to make a good law cause problems out of some other grievance, or it can be exposing how bad a law is by following it to its logical conclusion in a public and dramatic way. This is the latter, like those groups trying to get the bible removed in southern states with these kind of laws. It’s not about the bible, it’s about showing how bad book bans are.

  • If it was about security, you could add an alternative signing authority from another org you trust to verify software. This is about giving them the ability to “turn off” revanced and other apps they don’t like regardless of where they are downloaded.

  • I recently read a Kevin Mitnick book from a few years back. At the time, he recommended buying a cheap Chromebook, locking it up at home, and use it for banking - and ONLY banking. Never anything else.

Nowadays, a person could do that with a phone.

  • It’s always projection. They always assume the other side is doing what they do or plan to do. They tell on themselves years in advance.

  • I wonder how many of those 164k are people who are still being billed for a service they no longer use.

  • The post isn’t a sound legal argument, but it is an ethical one.

  • Ideally, the cellular modem just looks like a network device and usb sound card to the OS. Jail it as much as possible.

  • Cloudflare is a protection racket. They cover so many websites because it’s easier to pay the mafia.

  • Yes. Amazing that they have been laying cables across oceans since the 1800s.

  • This is a false equivalence, and doesn’t provide any insight into the situation, not unlike both-sides”ism”. No country is an ideal democracy, but there has been a fundamental change in the American state that needs to be acknowledged.

Nixon snuck around trying to do some of these things, and was done when caught. That’s because America used to at least aspire to democratic republicanism and rule of law under a constitution. Openly giving up on that is a very big deal.

  • Yeah, it’s just recovering a little of the energy spent in desalination, making it slightly less energy consuming.

  • Reduction in emissions, absolutely! Direct carbon capture isn’t that. It’s a scam, destroying money for no benefit.

  • Neither trees nor these can help much if fossil fuels continue to be burned at increasing rates.

  • This will only ever make sense when we have carbon neutral energy that is “too cheap to meter.” So, like, nuclear fusion, or solar panels become cheaper than tar roofs. In other words, these systems will make sense after climate change is solved. lol.

  • Tolerance is conditional. It’s a peace treaty, not a commandment.

  • Amazing that mass downloading of scientific databases turned out to be “just fine”, when big money wanted to train AI. What he downloaded was nothing compared to the scrapers running amuck now.

  • It’s the misleading “generated” electricity headline. It just re-captures some of the spent energy to be slightly more efficient.

  • They are just re-capturing some of the energy the system spent turning salt water into fresh. Because that results in extremely salty brine water waste, you can get some energy as it gets diluted back down to sea water concentration.

There no “new” energy in the system, it’s just wasting less.
