  • Motherboard has a key on it that is used to generate a key pair with your disk when encrypted. So you can't just snag the drive and pop it in another computer.

Note; I have simplified the technical details above for simplicity, on a technical level you'd want to read up for a technically corrected explanation.

  • No. Anytime who has actually done MSP work understand that most businesses are not purchasing office. They are purchasing a compliance and technology and identity control plane that has just about every add on a business needs.

Personal office use has always been a nice secondary.

  • Yes. Just because the feature isn't useful to you doesn't mean it won't be useful to others.

  • Where and by who?

  • So they aren't, and the devices work exactly as expected by the public. I'm not shocked.

  • What types of data does the US sell to advertisers? Do you have ANY evidence of the always listening mic? You'd figure after 10 years of this we'd have at least some evidence, right?

  • Still cheaper than Google though, AND better policy on training data and residency.

I've managed an MSP. I have cursed them too many times. Trust me I get annoyed with random teams shit.

Unless you gave me 5x the budget or already have a large team of engineers I'd never ever advise a business to roll their own. It just doesn't make sense.

  • Poor choice for most businesses.

  • M365 absolutely provides controls for that. You can have it scan your entire SharePoint/one drive for PII, phi, cc, etc. you can even prevent it from saving it you really need to be critical about it.

  • The EU and all governments have never done ANYTHING at all that was pointless or ineffective. NEVER!

I don't even fucking care that it's a thing, I said it won't shake up shit and a barrage of cell phone nerds read too much into my comment. 🤦‍♂️

  • 🤣 the irony here is thick

Imagine making up screen shots and posting edge cases to a forum to try and make a product look worse then it is 🤣

  • Probably should have started there then. Because it's not shit, that's clear to anyone who has actually had to support a business and its employees.

Question though, you'll scream about Microsoft because of Gaza, but what are you doing about the Tankie Lemmy/fed coders supporting iran, China, and Russia? Do you propose a fork? Do you think users would understand development and servers being cut down 50%? What are you doing about the code they use and members of this community contribute to further their propaganda?

Screaming at companies who don't kneecap themselves is bad strategy. Nothing will change without a change to laws and to expect otherwise it's foolish.

They were complaining about the price and I gave them the most feature complete ready to go cheaper solution and you went off on a tangent.

  • Nope. Nobody actually cares or reads this stuff. None of you understand how the average person shops.

It'll make little difference for the vast majority and do nothing like "shake up" industry. You are being targeted for clicks and some users dopamine when he gets a bunch of techies riled up and up voting.

  • You clearly have no clue how little the average car buyer researches before going to a dealership.

It's not that the information can't be useful, it's that Monday cares and it won't make any meaningful effect.

It won't shake up anything. It'll barely make a dent in buying habits.

  • Sure, and now go ahead and hire engineers at 150k a pop to support it and talk to me about the about the labor hours you spent getting it set up, integrated, and maintained.

You aren't fighting against the ability to do so, you are fighting against doing it at $120 per user for the year.

Additionally the nextcloud plan that is comparable to Ms business tier is now expensive with less features 🤣

  • Too many people not understanding that these suits are more than editors 🤦‍♂️

They are workplace tools. With an IdP, backups, MDM fleet management, rbac, litigation holds, etc.

  • Do you run a business? Do you need an IdP and role based access? Do you need to back up emails and documents from your employees? Do you need IT insurance to cover your ass or have compliance needs?

Then maybe you aren't the primary audience for these tools.

  • Nah, y'all just like to screech at MS while ignoring that the office is by far the most complete product in that space.

But I guess MS has brainwashed hundreds of millions business and it's actually trash 🙄.

It's so painfully obvious when folks who have no experience in this area screech about M365.
