  • I've thought about this for a while to be sure I'm not just being reactive. I wouldn't ask you to stop, in fact I encourage you to post more. I can't find the time to write such well written replies. Your post is the type of content I like to see and I'm sure others do too.

    I'm giving you an unsolicited critique of your comments. If you intend to communicate with laymen about scientific concepts from my experience you're going to have a lot more success approaching it as if you're a supportive teacher rather than trying to prove someone wrong. If you try to be more like Ms. Frizzle than Sheldon Cooper you might reach more people, which is the ultimate goal of communicating science to laymen.

    You are actually very good at it, and I encourage you to practice and find what works and what doesn't. Proving someone wrong just makes them defensive, teaching someone or communicating with the public shouldn't make them feel the need to be defensive.

  • This is going to barely scratch the surface but, historically when economies contract people die but the rich get richer.

    When top-down agricultural economies contract (negative inflation) that means there is less food around this year than last year. If that happens enough times there's a famine, but it's not those rich in food stores that will suffer the most. It's those with the least food because they'll run out first.

    When top-down capital economies contract (negative inflation) there is less capital around this year that last year. If that happens enough times there's a recession/depression, but it's not those rich in capital that will suffer the most. It's those with the least capital because they'll run out first.

    In either case the problem in my opinion at least isn't that the economy contracts, but that those are the top don't share their wealth because those in the middle are so afraid to lose theirs they're not willing to take it from the rich. That's because the middle doesn't realize how far away the rich actually are from them and they're worried that if someone goes for the rich and powerful then someone will also come for the mediocre money too.

  • It surprised me too how much my parents did as my parents got older and needed more support. Cleaning and cooking was only the tip of the iceberg. They did so many little things for everyone, I still don't understand how they had the time to do that, raise kids, and work.

  • I would too if I had to teach people's snot nosed kids all day then get harassed all evening by their parents calling me a groomer. The students hate you, the parents hate you, the school board hands down ridiculous requirements without any of the resources required to fulfill that, and everyone blames you for things you have absolutely no control over. Your benefits have been slashed, your pay is laughable, but you're going to feel fulfilment in your work. Right? If I was a public teacher I'd drink too.

  • Those same farmers I was talking about before have absolutely put down their own animals. They've shot their dogs when they're old and it's time. One family in particular let their cats "rejoin with nature" aka, just leaving it outside until a predator gets it. I think that's crewl but I can accept those cats are farm cats, not house cats and had lived 'in nature' their whole lives. I've even heard about culling day when they plan to shoot the less useful animals. They get the right ammo, carts, make plans for what they will do with the carcass.

    What they don't do is shoot a young dog because it's not what they hate it, then follow up with shooting a goat too and are pleased with themselves. That's a bright red flag for anti-social or psychopathic behavior, I can never remember which is which. The farmers I know see culling their livestock as a task or a burden, but I've never heard a farmer tell me they take pleasure from it like Governor Noem did in her book. Unprompted I must add.

  • Someone with one brain cell and a shred of morality would re-home the dog first. At least try too. Growing up near farmers it wasn't uncommon for them to give someone else a dog when that dog was a bad farm dog but could be a family dog. I've known farmers and they don't act like Governor Noem.

  • Ah yes, but it is the job of you, the consumer, to make sure you educate yourself about the products you buy. As the manufacturer, it's not my job to tell you anything about my product; except what I am legally responsible for divulging. It's your fault dear consumer, you didn't do your due diligence.   • So I've read a lot of this thread and I felt I needed to say one thing to you. I don't know why you need such extensive data security but that's none of my business.

    What I wanted to say is that if you need this much protection for a business, ie you're protecting many other people's sensitive data, hire a professional to do it right the first time. Doing a half assed job then paying someone else to fix it is twice as expensive.

    If you're doing this to protect your own personal data then the best way to do it right eventually is through trying and learning from your mistakes. Obviously try to avoid them but it's impossible to not make any.

  • This might have been acceptable 20 years ago but it's not a strong enough policy today. Data theft happens all the time and it's in the interests of a company who's security has been breached to not tell you that your data has been taken. You should assume that at anytime someone has several examples of your login credentials, not just one. You should use a password manager that isn't Chrome, Firefox, Safari, ect.

You can call me lazy, cause I don't bother to really explain myself well online, but please don't call me ignorant.
