  • I've tried it, its pretty meh but that was far better than I expected

  • Ambidextrous bullpup, what's not to love?

  • If there is a primary hopefully she will perform the public service of prompting the others to distance themselves from Bidens handling of Gaza

  • Its definitely something to keep in your mind with any computer. What I will say to assure you, is that the tools you are used to using on Windows for protection have equivalents for Linux. ClamAV for antivirus, firewalls, and anti malware software are available in most distros repos.

If you want to be more confident in your security knowledge on Linux, I recommend reading up on the basic permission systems for Linux. Make an isolated folder to explore chmod, chown, and Linux groups and see how accessing files with different permissions works. You can even look at SELinux (Security Enhanced Linux) for more of an idea of how kernel security can work.

  • It would be sad to see you go, your sense of humor has definitely made Lemmy more enjoyable lately. That said Lemmy isn't worth it if your mental health would suffer. Do what's best for you, and if that happens to be posting great shit posts then we will all benefit

  • Being angry is a very easy to access motivated place. I suspect some of the nastier folks just aren't good at motivating themselves otherwise

  • Echo people saying go to a common starter distro instead of a more esoteric one. Another starter tip if you want to learn the ecosystem deeply is to find good sources of documentation.

The man command is always useful, but for more general topics you can start looking with your distros help pages -> package documentation -> Alternate distro wiki. Essentially start with the documentation most relevant to your setup, which will often be your distros own guides. If your answer isn't there you can check upstream with the packages themselves. Many have github/sourceforge pages with good info. If you still can't find your answers several distros have documentation pages that are really really useful even when you're on different distros. The Arch wiki is for me the defining feature of the distro, and almost any answer to a Linux question can be found between the Arch Wiki and the Gentoo Wiki if you read closely.

  • The trick is to research what plants you can manage. My first real garden project was creeping phlox, a very hardy and drought resistant plant. If you're gardening outside nature will handle some of the workload and if you talk to a botanist about what grows well in your planting location and climate you should be able to find something anyone can manage. Lots of smaller skills to build as you go, so next plant you can tackle something a bit trickiet

  • The less obvious fucked up part is how do you suppose they determine whether an exception was met? Do you think that is happening before the law enforcement goons have access to personal medical data?

Almost certain that at the very least, having a medically necessary abortion will get your private health records turned over to the police. You will become an investigation target and have your privacy violated before they can even possibly know whether you fall under an exception. Mix in the general disposition of police and the specific conflicting interest of stalker/abusive cops who will have no motivation to protect the people in these situations and you have a system designed to put every pregnant person in the US in the sights of PD firearms.
