  • I searched for the keywords "vert" and "tabs" and found nothing.

  • I think they were referring to the UI which looks very similar to the pihole dashboard.

  • You can't copy the iso on if that's what you mean, but yes, you just flash the iso onto a USB just like windows. Also, were you installing on an internal ssd or did you want a live bootable stick?

  • I wish I could have a fingerprint and a pin with a limited number of attempts. Plus a password after like three failed pin attempts. I think that would be a pretty good balance between security and convenience.

  • Why use xfce if you want to use GTK... why not just go all out and use Gnome?

  • Did you use it to cook the pizza?

  • I believe it will result in like 10% additional overhead, which may be bad on metered connections, but I am not aware of any situation that results in decreased performance. I don't really know much about this so if anyone would like to correct me, please do.

  • I don't know if it is, but it is really as simple as adding to lines to a config file and restarting a service.

  • I think you are right that people want a solution to a problem they don't have, but I think in this case they may just want to run executable files as sudo from a GUI.

  • IIRC antix doesn't use systemd, right? I don't want to argue about systemd, but it may be frustrating for a new user trying to follow tutorials that say to use systemctl.

  • I would probably do debian 12 with kde, xorg, ext4. Not familiar with debian edu though.

  • I know. That is why I quoted the article saying that.

  • It is on my computer too. I am quoting the article. They said something that is clearly factually incorrect, not something that I agree with.

  • IDK exactly what hyprland is. I think it is a Wayland DE or WM or something. Seems to be popular on unixporn.

I like CLI 'cause I use it a lot for servers and find a file manager to usually be more than I need, though sometimes being able to see all the icons in a GUI or whatever can be nice. I also use a linux server that I manage through the terminal, so I am used to it.

Wayland and xorg are display servers. They basically help draw windows on the screen, and help with input to different windows and things. Xorg has been around a while and has good support, but has security issues. The main one that I know of is that all keystrokes are sent to all running apps in xorg, so making keyloggers is really easy. Wayland is more secure in that regard, but has performance and stability issues, especially on nvidia GPUs. People argue about them because people like to argue, idk.

Edit: Wayland user in case you want to know bias.

  • "2024 will be another year in which 'Linux on the desktop' won’t happen."

Edit: Guys I know. I run linux on my desktop too. I'm quoting the article.

  • I was looking for something like this a little while ago but couldn't find anything and this looks perfect. My server is mostly docker only so I might try to figure it out.

  • Is there a docker version or a chance of one in the future?
