  • Rocket.Chat seems to be doing well in Europe as well; they recently released their own native matrix implementation.

  • The scam this time is not about not paying, but about threatening to take the money back (with extras) if they don't do exactly what they are told.

  • By the point you get to not worry about floods and droughts, unlocking the whole tech tree is also quite trivial already.

  • Any Meta app in your phone can read it whenever it wants. It just doesn't send the message itself to their server.

  • First they took my Hannah Montana Cursor, but I persevered. Now they take my Cool Cursor. Am I expected to just use the system cursor? How can a man live like this?

  • Did it work? The day was pleasant for me for the first time in a while.

  • Take all you want. I don't even need to be able to use a blanket, I just want to wake up dry once more.

  • I don't know who she is specifically, but I've only ever seen her name in some weird contexts.

  • I can't handle Debian; my heart constantly craves shiny new things.

  • so true

  • I just hold it long enough for them to not have to open it again, but I let it go once they are in range to hold it themselves.

  • Really depends on what you mean by internet. It's kinda like asking "how can a country shut down commerce?" - it can mean different things depending on what level said country would act on, but what they usually do to shut down the internet is equivalent in my example to ordering all banks to stop processing payments. You would still be able to trade something with your neighbor but you would not have a fully stocked Walmart available nearby.

  • One other factor that also influences Linux' market share is that a lot of people just don't use PCs anymore and rely only on smartphones. I assume that Linux users are less likely to stop using PCs completely than Windows Users are (or rather, that people who don't even get into PCs would have been less likely to become Linux users if they did)

So it's not just direct conversion from Windows to Linux, but also a higher retention of users somewhat.

  • Careful, if you push them too much someone might make their own Linux, with Javascript (and hooks).

  • We're reaching the point where the real money is in the materials for the tools.

  • My default suggestion is Uruguay, though I have never lived there myself.

  • I just meant that the intention behind my comment was not to attack Wikipedia in general.

  • The point is that Wikipedia (in theory) doesn't make any argument about anything. It simply mirrors or summarizes information. Using Wikipedia as a source is somewhat similar to listing "the notes I made during class" as your source. Your source list is not meant to simply list where you got the information from, but actually list the origin of that information.

  • Citing ChatGPT would definitely not be more accepted than Wikipedia anywhere. You may get away with it, but that doesn't mean it's actually accepted.
