I don't even get why someone would want to vote on things especially with no real perspective like you describe. default donwn??? I upvote everything now but that is because of a quirk with a setting where I tell it not to show me things I have viewed or interacted with so upvoting removes stuff im not interested in. Previously I rarely if ever voted for something up or down and usualy only neder extreme circumstance. ie omg this is so aweful I need to do the community a service and down vote it or this is so great everyone really needs to see this. I personally don't really like community voting because everyone does it so many different ways its a useless metric. I would love rating to be used in a basic algorithmic view that only takes into account the ratings you give. trustcafe does this where verything can be rated (posts, users, comments, communities, domains, etc) and defaults to a value of 50 that the user can change to between 0 and 100. So like rather than blocking someone I can be like. This person is annoying but they are a real person (I think) and I don't want to totally discount them so I will drop them to 25 so their things go twice as far down my feed but then this other person I really jive with so I will rank them 75 so their stuff will be bumped up higher.

its like that kinda with all ai stuff. There is specific software that does it and the llm does it a bit worse but it does it and oftentimes folks won't even know about the software unless your heavily in a feel that uses it and then you would have to buy it, license it, create a solution around it (if your talking a company). The llm ends up putting all these capabilities as a one stop shop and, admitadely, that is very enticing.

I mean im mostly looking in IT, so competency tests are not untward and usually if I go the distance at least 3 interviews, but it does feel often like they just don't want to commit. I can say that winter of 24/25 were everything seemed to stall when I did recived replies it was often they are not moving forward whereas I identify stuff moving somewhere after spring 25 because I would get some that they went with someone else. I think this where I really got screwed. Being let go a month and a half before the election is what pushed me to over a year not working and now its a black eye along with my age. That being said the whole field seems to have gotten wierd with ai and purple squirrel type of thing. It reminded me a bit of around 2000 where adverts are asking for a set of requirements that are or virtually are impossible to fullfill. Again I feel its gotten a bit better but kinda anemic. Like they realize they need people but just don't want to commit funds and are super easy to pull back. So I can say that before companies I worked at were pretty much identifying their budget for the fiscal year and committing to it before the year started. I feel now they are not deciding their budget till the first month of the fiscal year and are now very tentative about everything they do.

I mean think about some alien reading a story about our modern military and the rebels have a patriot missile system. The alien is like I don't get why they don't strap these to a boat instead of using them on land. You see where Im going with the idea of strapping that thing that seems to be built down several stories into the ground and being like. They should just strap that to a cargo ship.

What balance do you find between constantly bettering yourself, vs just chilling?

Im not big on bettering myself as an independent activity. Like I have done the gym thing but I prefer to use a standing desk, get around by walking or biking. Try to have time to enjoy walking my dog and do things like bring the mail to neighbors. Find ways to be active. Similarly I don't use smartphones and will do deep breathing semi mediation when waiting but also might take in the sights and sounds around me or if literature is available and seems decent will read through it. When shopping I double check the per unit costs because they can be wrong or just to use a common unit when they liste them differently to get the best deal. I play games like suduko and now clues by sam. might start doing brackets. I take advantage of opportunities like splunk having some hands on sessions for free lately. Work on my personal technology. I just get more like this the older I get. Its hard enough keeping up with everything. Honestly im kinda always like this. I hate doing something and just getting one thing out of it. The more I can accomplish kinda passively the better.

I mean I get it kinda. I just have never really went for the smartphone thing. The laptop is basically my end all be all of technology. I too though love my steamdeck. I actually bought it as kinda of indulgence that I justified with the idea it would become my new laptop but I really like having gaming on a different device and just not worrying about it on my laptop.

I hate cars. My wife loves them. Now I sometimes talk about my wifes medical issues and im generally talking about about her physical ones. Now I know you say most people but like it would not be impossible for her to ride public transit. Heck people in wheelchairs do it. But its a pain and additionally when she was healthier she could just not mentally handle it. If im with her she can but still does not like it. To use bike lanes they have to be completely protected and separated from the street (again she would also have to be back when she was in better health). She would walk but again with me. She needed that support. She did not need that support when driving. The car for her is safety and feedom. Its funny as its kinda opposite to me. A car means possibly being broken down at the side of the road with no way to get home whereas a transit pass makes me feel safe. When I drive I am engaging in an activity that is very disproportionally large in possibly injuring or killing someone compared to absolutely everything else I do. Now if society was filled with people like me the suburbs would disapear and we could hav a lot less cars, but for folks like my wife. So let me put it this way. I actually just got up and talked with her to really place her here. I honestly though she would choose having a car over indoor plumbing. But she draws the line at indoor plumbing. So she would exchange the internet, electricity, phones, tv, raido. She would rather live in a world with indoor plumbing and gas light/heat with a car. Than live with all our conveniences without a car. I will tell you to. She is waaaayyy moderated on this stuff having lived with me. So like I think if she was in great health and there was fantastic bike infrastructure and we could live in a safe dense urban area. I think she would go for it. But it would have to be so perfect relative to me as to be impossible for it to come to be.

Yeah I did not respond to all your points. I did the first because it seems like you think all of what I was saying was in related to the same thing and it was not and you still seem to think. I did not move on to your second point as the first misunderstanding is rather severe. I really don't want to keep expanding as I had two things to say and you had two points about it so im trying to get the one straightened out. So let me know if we have cleared up that my paragraph is not all about changing societal norms and I can reply to your second and longer response if you like. So Im horrible at making proper paragraphs and such but this is how it should have looked:

im fine with trans people and non discrimination but my whole life sex and gender terms were one and the same for me and most folks in everyday language. The idea of identifying pronouns for myself seems laughable to me. Im a big believer in simple solutions. Got some temp work at a place with genderless bathrooms that had the full floor to ceiling doors. Its a bit wierd to wash my hands with girls but its not like im naked. There is all sorts of language things going out of fashion (online) and folks are like just learn it but look despite decades of school my spelling and grammar are atrocious because habits don’t change easily and no one is even forcing me to study or anything now. On top of it, like it or not for the internet folks, it has no bearing in the outside world which is still basically jugging along at its own pace. It will over time for sure but it won’t happen as quickly as early adopters would like.

Also I pretty much don’t like any type of censorship of fictinal things (this is the start of a second and independent response to the post. it could have been two responses but I was having a zoom zoom train of thought thing. this paragprah is not related to the previous. real quick this second paragraph is about censorship in general. so like while I might like the subject matter of fictional literature I don't like it being banned). Reality and fiction are two different things to me. Although modern ability to fake things is making identifying something as real as tough. I don’t want claims of it being high end fakes as letting folks get away with crimes.

Im not an expert in my field. Im pretty typical for someone who is decent in the field. IT books is crowded as heck as are youtube channels. I do not get how anyone can feel this is a reasonable thing for a typical person to do. This very much is like just start auditioning for roles until you are a star. A year from now I could be making real money or still be unemployed where I might not have been because I had located a job. Its kinda funny because I laugh at everyone chasing this creator thing. For every successful time your strategy works for someone there are tons of folks putting massive time into channels that are in the red month over month.

so ones that are trained exclusively on well known and quality texts in fields along with transcripts of famous debates and such. Right now they kinda just amass a lot of input without any attempt to curate high quality training material.

Can it be powered from a ship or does it take some sort of crazy large power station you just can't do on a ship. Ships did have ion weapons. They mention them in the movies and you see it in other media but it sounds like the hoth planet ones were way powerful. Also the dialogue and presentation is it was providing cover fire to forch the ships to veer off to make a cooridor for the escape ships. The plan was the ground based ion cannon makes a cooridor and each ship goes out with two fighters escorting it to harras any enemies that can recover enough to possibly take them out.

sorry also to clarify I don not thing one of your eyes is worse (which when I reread sourta sounds like it) but that the picture that is kinda one huge eye is like. aaaahhhhhhhh! save me from the demon eye.
