Pretty sure it's the economy. Despite the fact that the US economy has been reasonably well managed, by international standards, people are hurting -- which is the perfect recipe for changing the governing party. Telling people that things aren't as bad as they think they are makes you sound out of touch.
Perhaps it's fun to turn it back on them, but by doing so you're making it acceptable. Next time they misgender someone they'll say "but libs do it to me".
I hate the psychology. Those ads are designed by experts to make you less happy than you were before you saw the ad. Yes, even the ads full of happy people bouncing around. The ads full of moving life events set to piano music. The ads about "that ... feeling". They're designed to make you dissatisfied and depressed. Fuck ads.
Nintendo aren't the worst company. Not even the worst gaming company. Not when they have competition like Ubisoft and Warner Brothers and EA and Activision.
Of course, if it weren't for the presence of the aforementioned companies, Nintendo would be the worst.
The old way was that you owned a disc or cartridge (or cassette tape) with an instance of the program on it. That's going to need a new definition that everyone can agree on.
Obviously it's the sort of thing one could write doctoral theses about, but I reckon that much is not contentious.
