If it makes it cheaper in Indonesia, I’m really all for it. We need more EVs and need to move away from diesel and petrol cars. Beautiful land poisoned by brown clouds on most roads.
I wrote a post a couple of weeks back covering some of your concerns. You can find it here.
Specifically, even with coal as a source, EVs are cleaner anywhere from a few months to under 2 years. Some cars are built carbon neutral like my ID.3, the ID.4 and I believe Kias
Everyones own milage may vary, I’m not going to argue every comment. Good they can use Linux though - my parents never wanted to know anything but be pure users, so I did the same for them and in out case Mac was easier.
I just don’t see the point of slighting any OS when it’s used as an appliance, which - for the most part with family, is its role.
That’s a rather old hypothesis that hasn’t been found to be true. The discussion on climate impact hadn’t been so easily measured, but recent studies have caught up.
It depends on the new EV you’re speaking about and how old and dirty your present diesel is. Some cars are produced as “carbon-neutral”, like the VWs ID.3 & ID.4 (and I think Kia maybe?).
Whereas recent diesels have been found out to be up to 3x more polluting4-times more polluting than originally thought, and older ICE cars have been found to increase their pollution output as they age.
Remember the Daily Mail’s repeated rage articles about EVs being dirtier if charged with coal-fired electric sources? That’s been disproven again and again.
If you’re looking at climate impact beyond production, especially over the long term, EVs quickly surpass ICE vehicles in clean operation (production and usage) in less than 2 years (some cars, just months).
Many EV also use battery packs that are recyclable and can be repaired; Ford, VW, NIssan, Kia/Hyundai and others use a pack in a pack approach, where a bad groups of cells can be swapped out while keeping the main battery. Some like Tesla tends to glue them together, which means the whole pack needs to be replaced, but it’s still rare to have cells fail unless there’s a manufacturing problem like GM had with Hyundai cells (again, old manufacturing methods - modern EVs do it differently now).
From cradle to grave, modern EVs are overall far less polluting than gas or diesel cars.
That's the only thing they're right about, though. They shouldn't have banned you for your comment, especially not if it's true, but Apple DOES suck in nearly every way possible 🤷
Secondly, this isn’t “Goldmember”. Should I arbitrarily hate other countries for shits and giggles? …And who says I’m even Dutch? Maybe I’m like Kirk and I only work in The Netherlands.
Thirdly, they seem to love to hate on Apple there. I had the comeuppance to suggest Jen Simmons and the Safari team actually read the bug submissions (and she’s recently been on numerous videos, podcasts, and in posts on Mastadon saying so) and pushed back on their emoji-malarky.
On some instances, opinions other than the admins need not apply. Hopefully you’re not suggesting as much, even with the digs at the Dutch (who aren’t that bad, but like many, many other countries, aren’t all good either).
Electrek can’t take a shit without mentioning “Tesla” in the headline…
