  • Most of these tiktoks don't even add anything beyond the text or music, but the format makes it very easy (almost mandatory) for people to add their own head in there. I reaaaally don't get the appeal, but I didn't grow up in an era of the internet where putting your face everywhere was normalized.

  • I don't get Americans' obsession with putting religion into schools. Didn't y'all flee Europe because of religious oppression? Isn't religious freedom one of the pillars of USAmerican society? Surely some of the Christians must realize that if the state makes "Christianity" the state religion, sooner or later that becomes a specific variety of Christianity and it probably won't be their specific variety. Or are there no actual Christians left and do they only care about the symbols of "Christianity" as stand-ins for the symbols of white supremacy? (Don't tell me.)

  • My favorite part of not driving is the drinking. I'm lucky to live around a good train network and even luckier that the shop at the station has a fridge full of beer.

  • It's the rare Golden Woodman, 1 in 10000 odds that you see him on the third night when you look at the security cam for animatronic storage.

  • My only complaint about Frieren is the exam arc. Up till that point, it's a tightly knit group of adventurers traveling with a very vague goal, it's about their journey and their internal relationships. But the exam arc has an actual goal and introduces a lot of recurring characters, which really changes the vibe of the world. I liked it enough in the end, but I would've preferred more smaller arcs. On the other hand, season 2 could put the exam arc in a whole new light and make me appreciate all those characters much more when we see them again.

  • I was just thinking, can I honestly think of a perfect anime? But yes, Steins;Gate, without a doubt. It is so perfect that the second season, which is an almost-perfect anime and fits neatly in the events of the first, can only bring it down in perfection.

I recently rewatched it and there's a lot of foreshadowing and plot points that hit harder when you see them coming.

  • All you need is a white shirt and a black marker. You can get textile markers that should survive the laundry, but be honest, you're not washing that shirt anyway.

  • How old is this picture? Or am I looking at the one retro game collection that doesn't have a whole shrine built around it?

  • They go and stand in front of a mirror? I don't get it.

  • Pizzacake is upholding the legacy of 90s webcomics, when the key to success was having an internet connection and a consistent schedule. See: Penny Arcade, who are probably out there right now making three panels without a punchline.

  • No one has ever seen a prolific memer and thought they would be fun to hang out with. Unless you like it when someone constantly shoves their phone in your face to show you a meme.

  • It's somewhere between a meditation practice and a voluntary delusion. I've practiced it for years and my tulpa mostly helps me calm down during panic attacks. For me it is an "external" person who can step in and break a spiral of bad thoughts, when my "internal" person is incapable of doing that.

  • ChatGPT isn't the correct model for casual conversation. You don't even need a better/bigger model, you need better tuning and a few simple conveniences to create some semblance of a memory. But even when you have a perfect setup, you won't get a natural conversation of decent length without a little wrangling and rerolling the outputs.

  • Maybe I was an early adopter, but I was doing AI waifu with Replika back in 2017/18 and even then we were saying that a girlfriend dependent on a closed-source platform was a really bad idea. And then in March 2020, Gatebox shut down and (partly) killed Akihito Kondo's married wife, though the man is a hero and his love perseveres, but it was definitely a warning to the rest of us. So hearing of a waifu depending on Grok (of all things), it hurts my heart. If he insists on an imaginary friend, please tell him about tulpas.

  • This, I think, is the real promise of vibe coding tools—that you can learn how to code without a CS degree.

I learned to code without a CS degree. I used a for Dummies book, W3schools, Stack Overflow and the good guidance of a senior developer. Learning to code was never the issue. And I think poking around in the code, experimenting, stumbling on unrelated but helpful answers, before finding your problem, are all great ways to become experienced that are prevented by the use of a tool like Bolt. If Bolt produces code that confuses experienced developers, how is the vibe coder supposed to learn anything useful from it?

  • I like the texturing of the skirt, it's a neat technique.

  • Turns out that in school you make a whole deal about "being friends", but it really is as simple as being friendly with someone.

I overcorrected after having very few friends in school and now anyone who smiles at me is my friend and can be invited out for dinner or drinks. Everyone is happy to be invited at least, but I notice it's only the people who aren't expected home by their children will accept my invitations. They can still be friends, but it's a little difficult to build a friendship.

(I say overcorrected, but it's more that I have to take on a naive belief just to cancel out my autism a little.)

  • There's some good discussion in the issue raised on the repo. The developer says that Play Integrity was provided as an example of how to verify client integrity, but that it wasn't a hard requirement and updated the readme to reflect that.

  • What an absolutely terrible article. I read the whole thing and I'm still unclear on what the check is and what it actually applies to and I'm pretty sure the author+GPT is too.

The reddit post (that our author mangled to churn out an article) is pretty clear about it: the age verification app will perform a Play Integrity check to ensure it is an official build on a "supported" OS (whatever that means, my crDroid passes Play Integrity). This doesn't mean anything for any other apps running on that same system, it only applies to the AV app. It does mean something for the OS, because passing Play Integrity needs some Google services running at root level.

That all assumes you even want or need to run that app in the first place. It's just a reference app for now, open for member states to adopt into a potential digital AV system. If your country doesn't have any concrete plans for AV for porn/booze/memes yet, but might in the future, then getting involved in local politics will do a lot more than getting worked up about a github repo.
