  • Pensions, retirement benefits, and long-term care add up to roughly 40% of the German social budget, while 23% goes toward healthcare. That's already 63%.

Approximately 10% is spent on supporting children and young people (with problems), and about 5% on child benefits and the like.

AND ABOUT 4% IS SPENT ON CITIZENS' WELFARE, AND THAT'S ALL WE'RE DISCUSSING?

When Merz calls for the welfare state to finally be modernized, he only wants one thing: redistribution.

From the bottom up. Merz and his co. have just significantly increased pensions and retirement benefits with a lawn sprinkler, while tax increases for the rich are ruled out! And no one seriously believes that inheritance tax will ever become a real tax that also affects billionaires.

    More Facts:

48 billion euros still flow into fossil fuel subsidies every year.

The absurd company car privilege (Dienstwagenprivileg) costs 13 billion.

100 billion is lost to the state because tax loopholes for corporations and the wealthy aren't closed.

  • In Berlin, only 3% of all registered cars are pure electric cars (numbers from 2024).

Speeds of 30 km/h lower the emissions of nitrogen oxide from cars with combustion engines. This happens because of significant reduction of pollutant-laden acceleration processes.

The reduction of emissions from such a speed limit is based on more uniform traffic flows.

  • This is not necessarily the case - it has been shown that slower car speeds in cities leads to better traffic flows and thus can lead to more efficiency of car travel, less traffic jams. So everyone driving slower can lead to more reliability and less average travel duration of cars.

  • The question is: how much impact do such shared experiences have? This is usually overinterpreted. Even with all people who experienced the Second World War, one cannot say that they all automatically share the same character traits. There are millions of other individual factors that also have a biographical and epigenetic impact and thus diversity will always arise.

  • These generational differences simply do not exist in the way that terms like "Gen X/Y/Z/Millennials" make them appear. Societies don't work that way that everybody in a cohort has the same experiences and biographies.

  • These terms like "Gen X" or "Millennials" are just as meaningful as astrological signs. In other words: They aren't.

These supposed generational differences are utter nonsense. There's no scientific research behind them. There are always people with different experiences and biographical backgrounds, but no entire generation experiences the same background.

It's like a wiki where all registered uses can suggest contributions.

  • Plus you have high energy costs for desalination. Solar energy might help, but the desalination process is slow and needs to run 24 hrs a day to produce enough water efficiently.
